hey all

I just got home from the safety course, passed the course no problems. I was told that the instructor mails the results off and we'll get them back stamped in 4-5 weeks. My question is, do I have to wait for the results or can I fill out and send my application and sent the results in when they come to me. I saw on the application there was a checkbox for "documentation attached" or something similar so it seems it's possible. I was wondering if it shortened the wait time, or made it longer. Obviously, I'm quite anxious to get shopping and shooting.

Don't think they'll process the app without all the docs. Believe you should have been given a certificate or the like by the instructor.
You can go shopping now. It's not a bad idea to look at as many firearms as you can before you buy anyway. Decide how much money you want to spend first. Don't discount buying used either. It takes a great deal of abuse to damage modern firearms.

I was given my certificate and everything I needed from my instructor before I left. If I had filled out all my application I could have dropped it in the mail box on my way home.

Did you get any documentation saying you passed the course?

nothing, she said it would be couriered to the provincial CFO office and we'd receive it in 4-5 weeks. i'm pretty sure.

Was same for me, but my friend who did the course recently experienced the same as the poster. You now have to wait to get the proof of having past the course through the mail.

That is weird, normaly you get your results and a document saying you passed or failed at the end of the course. I have no idea what is going on with your instructor.

Like the other posters have mentioned, now go get your restricted, you won't regret it!

If you do have to wait to get them through the mail it must be pretty new. I did my course at the end of January and didnt have to wait. And if this is infact the new process what a joke you need to wait 4-5 weeks to get your results!!!! I can only hope this counts towards your 28 day waiting period but I doubt it does.

Can anyone verify that this is now standard? Or is it just something some instructors do?

There's a sticky at the top of the page about shortening PAL wait times. It's got a pretty thorough step by step of the entire process.

I had to wait three weeks for the CFO-verified CFSC/CRFSC test results to get to me. The instructors told me it'd take about two weeks - but I'm not pissed at them cause they were great guys, and they can't control how slow the bureaucracy moves.

I did my exam July 7 and left with all the paperwork in my hands, mailed it on the 9th, so it must be something unique to certain instructors. Maybe press them about the reason behind the wait. If it was a big class, I can understand a day or two, maybe even a week, but 4 or 5 seems pretty excessive.

everybody who left with paperwork in their hands, did you have to send it in to be verified by the cfo?

In what province did you take the course?

In Quebec the instructor sends the exam results and inscription form (Name, address, date of birth etc.) to Securite Nature in Quebec city who enters the information in the government computer. Because of the large volume of courses handled and the post office travel time, it might take three to four weeks for you to get the results back. That is when you will know weather you passed or failed. In Quebec you cannot send in an application for a PAL until you have this confirmation letter in hand and you have to include with your application a photocopy of the proof that you passed the course.

I sent nothing to be verified by the CFO other than the application an the paperwork I had saying I completed the course and my percentage on the written and practical.

It's an Ontario thing.

Once you pass the course, your instructor sends the results to the Ontario CFO.

They review, stamp, and send you a course report verifying you completed the course with a registered instructor, which you the pacakage with your app and photo and send it off to the CFC.

I was one of the lucky ones as it only took 5 business days to get them back from the CFO.

No wonder people get annoyed with these stupid laws. Guess I'm lucky not to be in Bantario

We're not as bad as Quebec.............yet.

McGuinty already has an Ontario version of Quebec's Anastasia's law written and ready to go. He thanks Wendy Cukier personally in it, so you know that ain't good.

If he gets in for a third term, we're ####ed. And I don't mean just gun owners. The whole provices is ####ed.

ok, so its normal for ontario. i already know i passed the course, she told me i got 100 on both tests. i'll have to wait for that to arrive i guess :(

Getting the results of your exams 'stamped' or 'verified' is an Ontario requirement. Anywhere else they figure an instructor who is qualified to give a course can mark a 50 question multiple choice exam.
Ontario instructors are advised to tell students to wait until they receive the 'verified' exam results but the CFC does not have that requirement, just check the box that says no results enclosed.
You can apply for the PAL without waiting for the exam results, and get the 28 day waiting period clock started. Hard to say how much time that you will save, depends how slow they are to rubber stamp your results.
Details of the process are in the Shorten PAL approval times thread:
