So I picked up a Baikal IZH-94MP .22 over .410

Winchester 3" #6's... A couple shots were even further than that... but I hesitate to write down the numbers... the hunting situation was actually pretty unique... when we flushed a flock the would sail off into the clear-cut... one or two of the birds would land in the top of one of the sgraggly spruce left standing by the skidders... we discovered that if we approached the grounded flock the tree top birds would raise the alarm and they would all flush out of range... so as luck would have it, one of our 870's still had a turkey choke screwed in from the spring turkey season... using high brass 3" #6's in our 12 gauge 870's, we would snipe the treetop birds from 60-70 yards (sounds like a long shot eh? It did to me too, except that every single one went down dead with one shot)... after the look-outs were down, we could approach within 15-20 yards and flush and wing shoot the remainder (obviously removed the turkey tube for an improved before wing shooting)... I'll say this for the sharpies... you better keep your eye on the exact spot the fall and get there fast... those suckers are camoflaged when they land belly down, and if they are wounded, they burrow like field mice! All-in-all, good times had by all! I checked Epps for another of those guns... the mannlicher idea caught my imagination and I will do one if I run into one of them... Epps had one that was marked as "sold" which was probably yours... they are holding two guns for me now, that I am picking up next week.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing that with me. Good eating? :D
Yeah, I bought the one they had there the day after it came in. It was just a stroke of luck that I happened to be looking for combos and noticed that one on their site.
Also, I couldn't get any Velocitors, but my buddy picked us up some CCI Stingers so I'll give 'em a go tomorrow.

The number you have for the .357 is out of a revolver barrel. Check out carbine test results:

My experience with Sharptails is that they are good eating. I did a pot roast, at low temperature, with seasoning salt, carrots, onion, parsnip, bay leaves and white wine. I shot them in the Peace River area of North-Eastern BC, so maybe their diet was different than those that Hoytcannon shot.

1. Nope... picture a spruce grouse ... on a bad day!
2. Stingers generally group like cow-pies! Try CCI Mini-Mag solids.
Ah, that's too bad!
The stingers grouped fairly well actually.
25yds off hand plus three slugs at 25 yards. The slugs were definitely meh, but in a pinch you could take something decent with them I suppose.

50yds benched. At this range I was covering the target with the front sight for the most part and was aiming essentially at the top of the red part.

Blazer at 50 yards benched.

#4 shot and a .22 fired at the same POA from about 15 yards for whomever asked.

Weird, that app is supposed to be all rifle loads. Either way that's good to know.
This is all making me hungry for lunch...

Maybe... we ate them all, but it would be a stretch to say that we were licking our chops when we did! They had dark purple flesh and the adult males were a might rank... onions and garlic and all.

It's ok... we shoot and we eat what we shoot... but somethings, go in the pot first.

When I talk about grouping with LR, I mean at 25 yards you should only see one hole about 3/8" big... but break action over under guns are not known for extreme accuracy... MOBH (Minute Of Bunny Head) is good enough usually. Try the Mini-Mags anyway, you can thank me later.

I am going to buy some CCI SGB loads, I've been reading about them and they seem to be a good combination of killing power and price. They are $2.99/50 vs about $7/50 for the Stingers and Velocitors.

Thats for that last test OP!!!...I assume the 22LR shot is the one just above the the X?

Yes, sorry I forgot to mark it. Some how I misse some of those other pellet holes there too they were from that shot also.
I actually was able to dust a couple clays with it too! I was pretty impressed with both myself and the gun.

Pooker try 7 1/2s, 8's or 9's that is where the .410 really shines.

I have done quite a bit of pest shooting around buildings and gamebird rearing facilities with .410's, the smaller shot will kill a rabbit or birds cleanly if you are sluicing them. Also I have a source for Brenneke .410 slugs if you are looking for some.

Cool, I'll keep an eye out when I buy another box or two of shot shells, thanks.
Also, yeah I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a box or two of the Brenneke slugs; they seem to be very well made and potent.

I have the same gun but with the 22mag. 2" groups at 100 yards if you let the barrel cool. I also shoot 410 slugs but found the accuracy to be way better with a mod choke. The full choke didn't pattern any better then the mod so I now just use the mod choke for shot and slugs. The slugs will shoot a 3" group at 50 yards.
