So I want to build a rifle....

Please explain why you think a 260 is "more versatile"? I also shoot with one and I achieve great results, but on the balance, I am not seeing the versatility thing.

O-k I am not the best at explaining things but I will try. 260Rem will utilize whole action lenght, it is big game caliber also, 6mmBr isn't. If 260Rem is kept trim within the reason like 12lbs or so then can be used as a beanfield hunting rifle, varminter, LR target and plinker. 22 PPc, 6 PPC, 6mmBr are specialized target and varmint rifles only so 260 Rem is more versatile IMO.

I took a whitetail deer at 280 meters this year with a 6BR and a 105 Berger Hunting Match bullet... I could pick whether I wanted to take out its atria or its ventricles ;)

Also, using the whole action is not necessarily a good thing. It also means that you may not be able to use a magazine with optimally seated bullets. VLD bullets are LONG. Add a long bullet to a 260 and you will have issues mag feeding. The 6BR WILL mag feed with VLDs in a magazine, but you need to use more neck tension than the 6BR typically likes. Also, if you wish to remove a loaded 260 round with a VLD, you may need to take out the bolt to do so.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just found the comment slightly obtuse.

While you might do well with the 6MM BR as a hunting round for big game, I wouldn't recommend it when there are so many better rounds to get the job done. I think .260 rem is much more of an all around that still excels in some forms of competitive shooting. Remember just because you can doesn't always mean you should ;) I'm sure with Obtunded's credentials a 6MM BR is a great long range hunting rig but I would want something with a little more for myself.

The OP doesn't give any indication at all as to what the rifle will be used for. He doesn't mention long range shooting, competitive shooting comps, nor hunting. So, without clarification, all of this back-n-forth doesn't mean much at all.

If he's looking for all around versatility, the .308 Win. would be a fine choice.

I see.

Here is what I want: long range shooting up to 1K. No hunting. Long barrel life. Based on Savage action.

And, it's 6mm BR.

So dealers please send me quote for 1:8 6mmbr bbl ....

Thanks!

Michael
