So I've got a new gopher gun, the question is, is it enough for anything bigger?

#####ified? How is adding the "Loudener" #####ifying.
Personally, I prefer a real man's caliber for Gophers, thankfully there aren't alot of those deadly beasts around here. Ammo for the 577 t-rex has really gone up lately, 10 tons of muzzle energy seems about right for a 12 ounce creature.

I find the #1 rather rude with big stuff, but its all fun.
Everyone laughs when they shoot a big beast like this (hence the giggles thing)...I have no idea why....for whatever reason my buddies and I laugh our a$$es off every time I get the big guns come out to play.

Isn't there a rule that the gophers have to be at least the same size as the ammo before you can shoot them?

That was my Grandmothers table. We got it after she died and will never get rid of it.
Best keep it away from visiting trailers next summer then, eh?
458 Lott
We have a No.1 in 458 Lott, bought it at a gun show from the dude that once upon a time went to Africa with it. It's had the shine removed from the wood. Apparently that was a must in order to go on the Safari hunt. Anyway, it came with 6 live rounds. 6 guys here that day, each had one shot. It has never been fired since that day! This is over 3 yrs ago. The gun sits in the back row of the safe. No one talks about it much. I guess one shot in a lifetime is more than enough for us candy-ass's! No, the rifle is not for sale. Only on a very rare occassion would a No.1 be for sale around here.

If you handload make sure your gopher rounds are running in the 3500fps range. You should get explosive results.

See and there lies my problem. I'm not affraid of recoil, actually I like it. I know it does bad things for me. I have a flinch that kind of comes and goes, it's the damndest thing. One day I shoot awesome, the next I can't hit ####. Smetimes I focus so hard on keeping my crosshairs on the bullseye I can't squeeze the trigger because I can't keep it centered, others I'm a (flabby) rock.
But nobody can accuse me of ever being affraid to shoot a gun. I've shot the big Sharps catridges (very cool), all the big magnums and I can go through slugs like they were candy. But I've always liked shooting guns that rock me back. I'm aware I may not shoot this gun as well as some others, but I'm going to shoot it as costs allow. And I admit I'll probably stick to the Winchester magnum loads more often then not just for the sake of dolars and cents, but you can bet your ass I'm putting a box of Lott rounds through her.

Now that is a pretty sad excuse for a gopher gun. One thing that gets me a bit steamed up is people who use underpowered calibers for hunting, with the result that a lot of wounded game are left to suffer and die. (Just kidding! That is a gorgeous looking rifle! I'm very glad I don't have to fire it!)
