So my tax refund was WAY bigger than expected...

Set a price and go find one on EE that has all the features you like for that price, with the money you save give a serious thought on tossing a few dollars towards the NFA, so you get to keep that rifle in the future ;)
So far, they have too much crap on them, and people are asking stupid prices. The few bare bones norks I see in the $500 range disappear before I can blink.

Why not get a FAMAE SG542? Sure it's more expensive than the others, but you'd have some NR .308 battle rifle goodness and still be able to get a Norc AR and come in under $4k for both.
Never thought of those. It would look good next to my M305, yes?
I'll just leave these HERE, and HERE!:p
Now those are nice :) This is what I don't mind seeing... a dealer willing to say "I just might have what you're interested in!" and making it harder for me to figure out how stupid i should get with the money before I get the money :)
Handled the SG-542 & 540 - not worth the going rate based on what I've seen.
You're ahead of the curve compared to me.
For sure...
Or how much money one wants to spend. I'd get on board with the new DPMS .308 offerings like others here, but I don't think there is enough practical experience with them out there...yet.
That's the thing, I'm trying to keep costs on the guns low. Never owned an AR before, and so far my initial impressions of them are that they're too damned short in the LOP for my liking, but then again I have a grand total of less than 50 rounds down range with them. That way I'm not out too much when I buy and don't like, and don't lose my shirt too badly if I sell. I'd rather buy a crapload of ammo for a cheaper, uglier gun that I can beat the piss out of.

I also have my other passion to keep in mind. I need a new pair of riding boots and a jacket, plus a set of tires for the bike. :)

I don't believe in cheap...
Good for you. I do. If I don't have to bet my life on it, and it runs well enough for my purposes, and it's rock-bottom priced, I'm sold.

Colt cm901 irunguns can get them its a 308ar with the ability to be changed into a 223ar in couple minutes not cheap but its a colt

I think if you look a little on the EE for guys that have some money into their Norks - ones with aftermarket stocks (either Boyd's or USGI fibreglass), scope mounts (ArMS 18 or other quality brand), unitized gas, etc. you'll find a bargain for around a $1000 - which could be cheaper than a box-stock 'rinco in the end.

For an AR, keep your eyes open for a gently used quality brand for cheap or I guess Norinco could be a good bet too, based on what people here say about them - I've no personal experience with them.

That is the nature of the beast, took me about 3 months of before I found my used Stag Arm CQB upper, the price I ended up paying essentially got me a free 9" DD Lite Rail and a set of Magpul BUIS works out to be almost $500 savings.

So today my senior tech and I made our weekly trip (gotta love slacking off on shop time) to P&D to poke around, and see what there is to see, I asked Scott (probably the best guy they have on staff there!) to show me some entry level ARs. Looks like I'll be pulling the trigger on a DPMS Oracle instead of a Nork. I was sold on the 16" barrel, the much more comfortable factory buttstock that actually had more LOP than even an A2 stock (this is a HUGE deal for me since I have ape-like arms) and of course infinite options for sights since it has the railed gas block. Add BUIS and a mount for optics I already have, my all-in price is about a grand. Plenty left over for finishing my M14 build, a couple crates of ammo, new riding boots, jacket (for the sport bike) and then I'll wait for ATRS' 308 AR offering. :)

And this is when you get a revised tax rebate that says there was an error, so please return the money.
