So, some a$$ stole my treestands

Somedays more than others I think there are more theives in the bush than anywhere. I've lost a treestand, several canoes, a 12' boat and a small gas boat motor, a new deep cycle marine battery and trolling mtr in the past 5 years - all in the big woods - out of sight. Most were locked and chained but still taken. Now I buy cheap beater boats ($150 or less) now to leave on remote lakes as necessary. Nothing too good - bent and twisted and rusted the better. Some idiots just try to see if their rifle will shoot thru an aluminum boat upturned on the land - suprise - yep it will. So now I got 5 min epoxy with me at all times when I'm back using my boats and that has been used several times.
Hard to imagine what kind of slime does that stuff - especially when your life may rely on getting out of the bush using your canoe or boat.

this is the reason i will not leave a tree stand in the forest even on my own property. if i leave one up it will be one i have made of wood that i dont care if its stolen or not.

My dad caught three guys smashing up our little cabin one night. They had broken down the door, broke the window, hacked out cupboard with an ax and broke grandfathers coal oil lamp.

Dad left those 3 guys lying in the field, -15C, and broke their gearshift off their truck.

Dad called the RCMP and told them where he left them. My uncle Buster drove to the farm first to make sure dad hadnt killed any of them.

RCMP and ambulance got all 3. I remember dad coming home without his muskrat hat. He had lost it there in the melee. I found it the next day. And I also found a lot of evidence of bleeding, although my dad was just fine.........

Decades later, we havent lost so much as a piece of firewood.

Now I don't always condone violence to solve matters, but dad's way sure worked that time.

and I NEVER messed with my dad.

That is what should happen to people who mess with other peoples stuff

And your dad never got charged? interesting... although I would probably do the same, yet think of our phucked up way of law these days at the same time.

Canada wasn't as in love with criminals back then. The lieberals have changed that.

You got that right. RCMP never even considered charges. Those were the days when justice meant justice. Even a little common sense prevailed now and then.....

He captured 3 criminals in the act. Turned them over to police asap. Perfectly good way to do things.

And don't forget...they had an axe;)

There are more thieves in the woods than anyone wants to admit. Every year we hear more stories about stands being stolen, cameras being stolen, etc.

It makes you not want to leave anything out unattended anymore.

I had a ground blind stolen two seasons ago, on private property. Whoever stole it had to cross at least two properties where they didn't have permission, because I had sole permission there. So, these folks are disrespecting two property owners at the same time...one who owns the item and the other who owns the land where it's located.

I have a ladder stand. I'm sure if someone tries to steal it (very unlikely considering where it is) I'll find them crushed by the weight of the thing. ;)

The comment about thieves in the woods is true, sad, but true.

This is the second time! I had a 300 dollar climber stolen two years ago.

The point of a climber is to be able to take it down, and with you when you leave/move.I have from time to time left it overnight if I was going there the next morning.
Because climbers are so easy to set up/take down, and move wherever you want to go is the reason I bought one.I have no worries of going to my spot and seeing there is no stand there for me,as I would have it on my back.

Some folks used to laugh at me because I use an engraver or a letter punch to mark my things identifying them with my name and phone number.
After recovering things others have disappearded or been "picked up by accident" I now get requests to mark my friends stuff as well.
I've found indications some of my stuff was "surveyed" with a view to taking it, then left behind when the markings were noticed.
Hard to explain why you have something belonging to the CLKid and he's reported it stolen.

Abandoned metal in the woods is just litter. I wish more guys were as passionate about their beer cans and old tv's. If some tard leaves a stand up outside of the appropriate season it's litter. I pick up cans and garbage when I'm in the woods and I'm not a thief. Leaving anything in the woods is poor practice in my opinon. Private land, fill your boots. Crown land belongs to everyone and no one wants to have to look at your sh_t.
Just my 2 cents.

Just got back from gathering up my tree stands this morning and some F*&KER grabbed two of my tree stands. I used them right up until new years eve for archery hunting and I havent had a chance till now to get them. Went out at first lite this morning to call for some coyote's and then made my way around to there locations and they were both gone:(. I dont own the property were they are at but I do have written permission from the land owner to have them there.
Worst part is one of them was a friends and now I have to replace the damn thing. What a pain in my a$$:runaway:

Done venting now.

What! You mean you forgot to set the bear trap at the base of the tree! Nothing more satisfying then going to retrieve your tree stand and finding a smelly lower leg chewed off just below the knee still stuck in your conibear.;)

screw in climbing pegs and a stand that takes 3 guys with 2 ladders to put up kept mine in place for 2 years..... nock on wood

i just keep takeing the pegs out when i leave for the night, the more of a pain in the ass your #### is to get to the less trouble i've had.

Even now many Cops understand that the only justice that will happen is in the arrest. One of my friends caught a thief one time and when the Cops showed up they mentioned to my buddy... "That guy is in really good shape, usually they are so clumsy that they fall down a lot before we get here."

I've also seen a dog handler finish his coffee before going to pull the dog off of a caught thief. I really enjoyed that.
