So what does everybody think about the new ISPC classifications?

Did anyone notice that this is called the INTERNATIONAL Practical Shooting Confederation. We have INTERNATIONAL RULES & CLASSIFICATIONS (ie rankings). This sounds like tennis, golf or any other competitive INTERNATIONAL sport.

If you want to start a new organization and call it the ONTARIO Practical Shooting Association, go ahead. Then, everyone can be a Grand Master and tell all their freinds. It doesn't mean that they will perform any better than an IPSC or USPSA GM, but they will feel good about themselves.

Anyone on this CGN forum remember CPSA. That disappeared too!

Those of us who have competed for 10 or more years at the World's, European Championships, US Championships, etc, KNOW what the world skill standards are and generally believe you improve (and want to improve) by shooting with and against the best shooters in your Region or the World.

Those of you who never will leave the mothership, that's fine. Enjoy the sport at your own level with whatever classification you want to call yourself. This is first and foremost a HOBBY. Enjoy it or take up something else.

Anyone who believes that everything should be decided by majority vote referendum should move to Quebec and join the PQ. We elect a Board of Directors who deliberate on our behalf and make decisions based on what they believe is best for the sport here in Kanada. They also take into consideration that this is INTERNATIONAL, not Canadian.

Has this topic been completely exhausted yet????
Geez, it's good to have you back Rob. Of course you're right. There's no need for an Ontario Classification system at all. There should be a regional one, and that's enough. Especially since it's administered already by someone else.(IPSC) Saves us the trouble and all the nonsense of getting someone to run it. Then you get all the idiots crapping on Quigley for being democratic of all things. When was the last time any issue was put to a vote in Ontario??
I can't remember any. If people really want a sectional system, at least we were in involved in the process. Maybe members should take more care in who they get to represent them in the form of club reps. And to Quigley, hats off to you, because you have a lot more patience and thickness of skin to deal with morons daily than we would. Damn the torpedoes!

yes classifications are important, obviously, otherwise you wouldn't have bothered changing the system would you? What's the point in paying for a match that you "hope" is going to be a classifier when you could pay less and shoot a level I and have as much fun. the whole point is for it to be a classifier, not just a fun shoot. It's a competition and as such people want to get something for their effort.
anyway that's all I am going to say, as it's an Ontario thing. I just hope it doesn't spread to here.

Hi Quigly,

I would first say, I do not envy your position.

I have heard and can see many are unhappy with the new system. I am suprised your defending it, instead of looking for a remedy. Your public has spoken, it sucks.

You may want to read the below.

Thanks,
Colt

ps. Red will call you as requested.

...I match does not prove anything...so we're not ready to abandoned the system just yet. That's just reactionary.

We anticipated push back. That's just human nature...and it doens't mean we've missed the mark.

We are monitoring the results and if we need to fine tune we will (but this is going to remain as our starting point)

Regards

It is people like you that have helped me decide to leave IPSC.

say it isn't so Mobile...... that make 2 reps gone in 7 months.... If Madness and Filthy1 follow suit, Windsor will be left with no one and then what....

Not my resident province (although I was born there), but why would you leave? Seems a shame to let these things get to you.

No I am not and I was not being serious. I just thought that some people needed to give themselves a shake.

why the whining ?

HOLY COW !!!! Why so many of you Freak'n whining about ? ? ?

No system will be perfect, but give this one a chance already, would ya !!

Oh, I'm assuming everyone is whining re: production, maybe open ? as Standard is probably not going to be an issue.

Anyways, Yes, it may take a few extra level 2's to get classed for the first time or upgraded if you've recently improved, but if you've improved & somewhat consistant, you'll eventually be classed & accurately at that.

Re: Omen having a soft performance. do you production shooters who are whining, want to be upgraded (eg. B to A class) cause you shot 76% to him on a soft performance on his part ? ? Why would you ?? you can brag about your performance that day, & you can be proud of it, Cause YES, you finished better than usual & you should enjoy it !!!!!!!! but, you many not finish that well for a while again & are not an "A" shooter consistantly. You may earn it soon & than you'll deserve it & wear it proud.

but if you all don't give a crap about the "class" beside your name at a match being a true representation of your consistant ability, than switch over to standard & I'll sell you the "M" beside my name for $100.00 ! I don't want it.
I'm embarrased to have it there, when I usually finish in the 70%'s.

also, why are you wasting you time whining about the classification system ?
try to get out to more level 2's so you'll eventually shoot a classifier.

when i returned to ipsc in, think 2002.... after some level 2's not being classifiers, I drove 3 hours to grenville level 2 & luckily it was a classifier.

Just shoot, have fun & it will balance out.

I know there are less Prod. shooters & not many GM class shooters to help the class thing along, but that's LIFE !, it's a growing class & it'll also eventually grow in # of shooters & more classifiers every year. This is for the good of the sport for tomorrow too, not just for today.

I'm NOT, REPEAT, NOT trying to offend anyone here, so don't throw things at me at the matches. I just don't understand all the posts back & forth. Enjoy the match, have fun & give this a chance and see..........?
lets continue this topic next January & see what we all think then ?

Quigley has done a great job representing us (ipscont) & is an embassidor to our sport. He's always taking time to respond to your posts & emails to explain & answer your questions. Give him a break !

Oh, at WSSC's level 2, I shot a few stages a bit slower than I could have, but shot it CLEAN (no "Mikes" & no "Penalties or procedurals) :D I rocked stage 4 w/ 85.70%. l love hoser stages.
Oh, I finished w/ 74.83% overall. Hmmmm....I must be a true "M" class.....:p

Well, I don't know about you ALL...

edit:

Well, I just read 2 more pages of interesting posts. There will definitely beer for those of you from Ontario who make the trip out west this year.

Quick question if classes are transferable between divisions. Do I have to shoot all three steps (ICS, level 2’s & level 3) of the classification system in the same division?

I just hope the new system doesn't keep shooters from coming to matches.

Under the old system, we could look up online (Omen's match sign up) and see how many M's and GM's were shooting, and then know if it would be a classifier.

This past autumn, there were about 15 unclassified (new) production shooters signed up for a match. Many had just finished their Black Badge course. Tritium was signed up, but I was going out of town that weekend. J.R. helped squeeze me in so that I could shoot it and make it a classifier for the new shooters.

I think if people know a match would be a classifier, more will shoot and sign up. (Especially for people with a longer drive.)

At any rate, we'll see how the new system works out.

Okay, I should probably let this thread die, especially since I have no vested interest in what classification system you guys use in Ontario but...

Situation 1:
I'm a GM. I've had some problems with the last couple matches, and I'm hovering at the edge between GM and M. One bad match might drop me down a classification. I've had a terrible match - gun troubles, bad ammo, my head's just not in it. I KNOW I can do better. I shoot 87%. Wow, thank goodness it's not going to be a classifier; my classification won't change.

Situation 2:
I'm a C class shooter, hovering on the edge of B class. I only need one semi-decent score to be promoted. I've had a terrible match - gun troubles, bad ammo, my head's just not in it. I KNOW I can do better. I get an abysmal score and it's going to trash my average. Too bad that GM had a smoking match so that this match is now a classifier..

Is there any recourse to allow the C class shooter to NOT have his scores submitted for classification? (Other than running to the Saftey Area (thanks, New Brunswick! :p ) with a box of ammo yelling out, "Look at me! Look at me!")
