So what is it with Remington 710's anyway?

I'm planning on buying something in .308 eventually, and was aware of the existence of the 710, although I'm much more interested in the 673. However, based on what I read in this forum, I keep on getting the impression that most people here would rather have a severe crab louse infestation than a 710, but nobody ever gives any particular reason why.

I've already decided that I shouldn't even stand near a gun rack with a 710 in it in case it does something dire, but can somebody explain, in all seriousness, why it has such a bad rep?

the way they are made, makes them dangerous. dont let anybody on here convince you to buy the 710.

If you want a remington, go get a sps something or other whatchamacallit. I have friends that know people who have them... I have heard they are around 400 bucks.

There are usually a few good bargains on the exchange forums for used rifles. Some people are bandits, and others are real nice genuine people.

Now, if you are looking at an economy rifle that wont blow a hole in the cheek bone, Savage has some rifles worth looking at.

Theres nothing wrong with getting a used rifle, providing you know what to look for in terms of the condition it is in (others will be sure to help out on here if thats the trail you pick), caliber you want, type of action etc.

just stay away from the 710. im sure this will be a 710 bashing thread and probably rightfully so.

When I worked at a gun shop, I saw at least 2 bolt handles fall off...they looked glued on...and I'd seen a broken trigger guard. Considering a 700SPS is cheaper (granted you don't have a scope with it) and a far better rifle...

Sure there have been problems with the 710 but now that you can buy one with a FACTORY camo job I think you'll hear a few guys change their tune.

If they were such a bad gun, why would anybody sell them as they are not a cheap gun compared to a Stevens 200

They are a bad gun.

An acquaintance of mine up here was sold one at our local Canadian Tire. He didn't even get through the first box of ammo with it while sighting it in at the range.

The bolt shroud broke off the rifle!

Not a story, I saw the rifle. Of course the 30-06 has such tremendous recoil, that might explain it.

Bolt handles coming off are common, and that happens because the bolts bind in the receiver.

They are a bad gun.

I don't think the 710 is available in 308 ?
Why the Bad Rap ?
They are a Cheaply made, with pressed on Barrels, Bolt handles fall off on occasion, the stock is the Worst feeling thing....ever. The "removable" magazine is rattly and feels really cheap. The scope they give you with the rifle is also Crap.

But what the Hell, they are Cheap and alot of Hunters out there buy the cheapest ammo at Canadian tire they can find and won't even Shoot it anyways till it's pointed at an animal.
It already comes "Boresighted" at the Factory afterall:rolleyes:

These Rifles are the "Fast Food" of Firearms....Made to be Mass produced as cheaply as possible and sold for Cheap.

Now having said that they will put the Deer on the Table I'm sure:dancingbanana:

hahahaahhahh. Okay, go buy a 710. I thought you needed a 6000 dollar rifle to shoot a animal anyways. Tell us how it works for you.

you crack me up. They are a cheap POS compared to the stevens 200 series.

Rem 710...

Handled but never shot a few Rem 710's. Nothing about them makes me even remotely want to own one. If I was looking for a bargain basement rifle it would be a Stevens 200. For a few bucks more a guy could get into a Rem 700 SPS.

Why are there even Rem 710 threads anyway... I thought the vote was pretty near unanimous - it's a POS rifle. But buy one if you really want one... ha,ha,ha... :p

I think the receivers may be made from recycled SPAM cans but don't quote me on that one,.... it may be Campbell's soup instead

I was in a gun shop when they first came out and a gentleman wanted to handle one. He picked it up and started cylcing the action quick to see how it felt; he almost punched himself in the nose when the bolt slid completely out of the action on the rear stroke.

I never said I needed a $6000 gun to shoot anything. Your just assuming that. I said I wanted a GOOD GUN and that I didn't want to waste my money on the cheap stuff because in the long run, it is more expensive.

I have never seen a 710 or shot one and I wouldn't buy one but how does a company sell something that is so bad?

Yeah, I got a 700 which I like, it makes me a bit upset that a company would produce something of such garbage quality and then pride themselves on other popular products.
