When the micro is all-consuming or at least fills all the senses, it is certainly easy to lose track of the macro if one wishes to.

Many people have gone into the wilderness for exactly that purpose, but gone are the days when people could head into the wilderness and disappear, not to be found for decades, like the Old Believers who moved into the wilds of Siberia to escape the Communist regime and were not discovered until the 1950s.

Breaks from reality are nice, but it's still there when we come back.

Yea, it’s a damned good reality, gotta go see how most of the world lives. Respectfully, I believe your interpretation is backwards. Out there, and your family and friends is the reality. On here this is the noise; the meaningless political debate over pronouns, the internet, the tv, the conspiracy crap.

People sit around bemoaning the state of a place of unparalleled opportunity and security in the world while reality trucks on. And what on earth all this has to do with rallying against the first major global initiative to get everyone on board protecting rapidly dwindling habitat, I don’t know.

There are some bizarre concepts and warped views about Canada being floated here. Wilderness is more accessible here than anywhere due to our country’s size and lack of population. Canada without debate is amongst the most abundant places in the world for wilderness, as it is for opportunity. If you feel it isn’t, we need 30x30 even more than we think.

As for economic prospects, if one can’t make it in Canada, they can’t make it anywhere. Ask any South African, of any colour. Hell even just see how average Americans live in the trailer parks in the disadvantaged south. Let alone how the average citizen of India lives.

There’s this narrative amongst many Canadians of the demographic that frequents gun forums we’re living in soft times and need to harden up, previous generations were tougher and worked harder. I don’t need to explain that irony. We’re in the 0.48% of the most privileged citizens of the world, never forget that.

I can't help but agree with the comment about spending a month in the bush being put of reach of many. Getting paid to do it is a decent alternative, but many live pay cheque to pay cheque and work multiple menial jobs to support their families, telling them that if they can't thrive here they wouldn't make it elsewhere and that they should take a month long vacation is just ever so slightly out of touch

here's what the informed have learned, because we learned to get info from anyone but the mainstream liars but even they have the manuals on this and we read their own plans, it's actually easy to just read the mainstream for what it is and know truth and reality is basically the opposite, just like the last 3 years, but 30x30 is one of the initiatives that will get the people out of the country and into their pods in the 15 minute cities eating bugs and only producing their 2 tons of co2 a year, no more cars, digital id/currency, eat a steak one day and bugs is all you get for the next 3 weeks, one vacation a year perhaps? hope all the travel bugs are ready for no more travel and see the world lol

...maybe it's not clear, but those existing protected areas count towards the 30%. 30x30 is simply building on what has already been done, it's not some "new" initiative. I tried to make this point earlier, but it seems worthy of repeating. Regardless of how this is promoted on the international stage, as far as i can tell here in Canada it is nothing new, just the promotion of more protected areas.

Indeed I’ve been to far more of them than most. The very hardest fly in, remote reserves in Canada are a world apart from the slums in Soweto or even the average in many countries. None in Canada are truly as on their own, as people are there. As always things can be improved, but by god nowhere in Canada is the slums of South Africa, or India, or even South America.

There’s a job in this country for anyone who wants it, we’re seeing record employment. Getting a good one requires doing what the venerated generations did, what we did, and presumably what you’ve done; training then leaving and choosing a profession that pays, until you can be where you want to be. Even then many of the good jobs like yours and mine mean you’re still away more than you’re home. But we can spend a month in the wilderness thanks to it.

That’s not out of touch, that’s making a plan and doing it. Something this stable and affluent country allows us to pursue.

blakeyboy i do not know what is your background or your life experience but if you cant enjoy canada you need to get some reality check to your life ...
i made the choice 17 years and never regretted once and it was not easy everyday of course, but i can still read here that many do not like immigrants and still impress me as most are coming from immigrant histories ...

life is not easy but you can make easier to enjoy and i will add where i live it is still 90% wilderness but you still need to work out your butt to be not around people if you enjoy to be alone ...
