EC,
VERRRrrrrrrrry NICE collection of modded up 14s.
I see you like the shorties ...
they certainly balance better for me in most stocks,
and with a street legal 18 3/4" barrel chop,
are my personal preference for an all around 14.
With all your experience with modded up M14s,
your perspective and opinions on M14 stock design would be greatly appreciated.
Which M14 stock is your "favorite" and why?
I am still searching for the "perfect" M14 stock, and it will arrive some day ....
even if I have to make it myself. So far, my personal favorite M14 stock setup is still my Do it Yourself side folder with a US GI glas stock as the starting point.
This setup is light, fast, and balances well for me with or without optics.
I sold my JAE gen 1 stock.
Much as I liked the adjustable ergonomic fit,
and the bolt up/repeatable tension trigger guard replacement,
and the idea of a big aluminum bedding block,
I simply found the JAE too big, and too heavy for general use.
Maybe if I was a competitive M14 target shooter,
then the JAE would be my first choice.
I bought an AKM stock,
and dropped it into the chop saw,
to create a very nice handling AKM Chop Mod.
I liked the AKM for the balance and workmanship,
and I loved the AKM rectangular op rod guide, and the way it free floats the barrel.
But hated the AKM handguard attachment design [ mounting the handguard to the stock inbstead of to the removeable action makes it a major pain to strip ], and the rail is TWO piece.
I sold my AKM chop mod, and am now assisting in the design of another
Munimula stock, which hopefully will have all the best features of the competition, and none of their weak points.
So if you have some advice regarding good and bad features of your stock designs, based on your experience,
I would be glad to hear it.
thanks
