I am looking to raise my cheek weld on my 5R a little to get the most comfortable position and consistent shot.

I see some people use soft cheek pads

while others use hard cheek rests (like a riser).

Is there a rule of thumb (IE: if you wanna move it up a little go soft, if you wanna move it alot go hard)? is it just personal preference? Part of me thinks that a hard cheek rest/pad would provide a more consistent cheek weld then a softer pad but with as many people as I see using a soft one, I must be missing something.

I have used both..............I use the soft style on my long range rig just for the non-slip surface, storage pocket, and extra ammo loops.......I don't need any extra elevation for a proper cheek weld........

Where I need extra height, I use the hard adjustable style........

I'm glad to see that the Rooster33 designed cheek rest is still popular these days.......;) :D

If there is any movement or give in a cheekrest how could you possibly attain the exact same weld spot every time you put your face against it.
The strap on/glue on soft bag like devices are better than not getting properly behind your scope, but leave ALOT to be desired if constant and repeatable cheek weld hence accuracy is the desired end result.

I have had zero issues with the Eagle cheek rest I use moving or shifting. I get a repeatable cheek weld behind the scope, and a nice gentle non-slip surface in which my cheek rests against. Which is the reason I use it. I don't need the extra height.

On my Rem. VS Stock I needed additional height, so I installed a Rooster 33 Adjustable cheek rest. It worked great. :D
