I figured out how to kick the ant hill...
I never could understand the 357Magnum in a rifle as useful for anything but range blasting. I'd rather an SKS for that.
Just sayin'.
I sort of feel the same way as in "If I'm going to carry a rifle I want a rifle cartridge." but somehow I have ended up with two??????????
It started with my ATC allowing me to carry my .357 magnum revolver at work and heck, might as well have a rifle back at camp that can fire the same cartridge since the ATC does not allow practice fire with the handgun at site. I would also have my 12 gauge pump but having the .357 magnum rifle gave me "options".
How I ended up with two, I have no idea other than they are fun and very nice to carry.

Seriously though, this is the hunting arms section, not the range rat section.... I am assuming the OP wants something he can hunt with....
For $1k, you can get a used ruger GSR...... scratches all of the itches....
Or, look at your collection and pinpoint your fave rifle and get a nicer piece of glass for it if it is lacking.....

I agree with Superbrad, look for a good used bolt action rifle, something you will get use out of, for hunting deer and moose.
They are great, light, fast handling and takedown.

I have an axis .223 for fun, won an axis II in 243 in a raffle and hunt with a tikka 6.5x55 and an old beautiful bsa featherweight in 30/06. Also carry my marlin 45/70 once in a while

Don't let the others talk you out of a .375H&H. My .375H&H is so awesome, It sent my front sight hood flying to the 8 meter handgun target line. Sounded like an M1 Garand N-Block clip.
