I’m getting back into the Tavor game again and I thought I’d try out one of the new fore-ends that are more common now than the last time I owned one. I don’t care for the factory fore-end on the Tavor at all and was looking to try something different. I had a chance to pick up an RPM Precision keymod unit and both it and my “new to me” Tavor showed up this evening. I had a chance to grab a few pictures on the back deck just before it got too dark.
I’m no expert on Tavor fore-ends, with this being the first I have any experience with but I am impressed. It’s more low-profile than a lot of other products but I'm OK with that—I’m unlikely to mount a flashlight on my Tavor unless my world takes a dramatic turn for the worse. In fact, I’m unlikely to mount any accessories on it, I was just looking for a replacement for the factory unit.
The fore-end is aluminum (anodized I guess) and does not weigh much. Mounting was easy and fit was good. What struck me most about the unit was the nice design touches. I like how the angle of the front end matches the angle of the Tavor above the trigger, and how the groove below the side keymod section matches a similar horizontal line on the Tavor. I also like the curved section where it mates with the trigger guard—it’s very comfortable. I know these touches won’t make it work any better but I’m a guy that appreciates good design—when something looks better than it has to—and this struck me as being an unusually thoughtful design.
The front-end is open and would not allow under-barrel mounting of a flashlight like the Gearhead Works unit, but for me I’m happier with a smaller fore-end as I’m not mounting a light.
I’ve only messed around with it for a couple of hours but I’m quite happy—I like the feel much more than the factory fore-end, and I’m very pleased with the look too.
