Some Teasers

Of course ATRS quality is top notch, it's just a lot of people would be in the game at $2500. $3200 as a "starting" point is a lot.

Personally I would be happy with options for a standard duty trigger, I don't "need" a JP silent buffer, etc etc Costs could potentially be lower if we didn't have to have the Cadillac parts, although I do respect their choice to do so,,millions of AR's function fine with standard mil spec parts.

"millions of AR's function fine with standard mil spec parts."

And therein lies the rub. They are ARs, which in Canada means restricted. People need to stop thinking of both the Hunter and Varmint as ARs. There are many differences between our NON restricted rifles and the AR platforms they resemble. The differences ARE what makes them legally different.
We already make an AR variant and it sell base model for about $2000.00 BUT due to the milspec almost everything IS RESTRICTED in Canada.

Isn't that same price point for the base model for MH? I thought this would be cheaper?

Not far off unfortunately, however the MHs going forward will also go up by about $200.00 due to our adoption of the JP buffer system alone.
With the increases in cost of raw materials and parts we do not manufacture we are starting to see, and with the Looney dropping to about .75 USD all of which has to be taken into account, we will have to revisit all the pricing on the Hunter.

My personal opinion here ... I don't think you guys need to cater to the people complaining about the projected price. I'm sure a lot of people out there appreciate the explanations simply because they're learning the ins and outs of why you need to charge what you charge. That said, you guys have an excellent reputation and do excellent work, so I think anyone complaining or calling out the price either doesn't know what they're talking about or simply are being disrespectful towards people at a company who are doing what they can to make the gun market great for Canadians.

So thank you for what you are doing.

And about the pics ... that fit is incredible. Very well done.

Thank you for the kind words.

I would like to think that those who are questioning pricing are not just haters. I try real hard to believe in people. I think many just have no idea of what bringing something like this to market, especially in a very small market, costs.

For the LARGE makers in the USA that make billet style uppers and lowers, when they order aluminum bar, they order many tons per order, due to our size and market we order 1 ton or less.

Bolt assemblies we do not manufacture. Many big name makers of ARs also do not make their own bolt carrier assemblies. When someone like Daniel Defense or Colt orders bolts they order thousands, where as we order a couple hundred. Ya think possibly they get a better deal on bolts than we do? I am not for an instant claiming either maker does not make their own bolts, frankly I do not know but use them only for illustration purposes.
People here seem to not take things like that into account until it is pointed out.

A large part of my job is to educate and inform, which is why I take the time to answer as many questions as I can. No so much to defend our position but to make folks think about the differences they get with our products when compared to mainstream products of a similar nature.

I thought that the BCG was an AR BCG that has been modified? Am I incorrect in this thinking? Do you guys mill your own or modify existing BCGs? What about for the MH?

The bolt carrier IS a proprietary part, the actual bolt and all the rest of the parts like firing pin, gas rings and key, extractor etc are normal milspec or better parts.
We did this so that clients have the comfort that should for some reason cease to exist, they can still get all the normal wear items.

Thanks for the clarification.

Is the MV likely to be able to function well with hard primers? ie. Norc 556 and the like? I think I read that the MH was more designed for use with soft commercial primers and not function well with mil surp (I could be wrong). I am going to have a decision on my hands with respect to this vs. swiss arms.

Thanks for the update ATRS, this is on my dream rifle list for sure.

Who is going to pony up for all the NR rifles being compared to ATRS's offering and do a side by side review and torture test!? ;)

The 3 lb Timney single stage match trigger is not designed for use with machine gun ammo, so may or may not reliably ignite the hard cup primers typically employed in mil surp ammo.

I not sure that the norinco ammo has the hard primer cups as it is not really surplus, it is more like cheap offshore made commercial ammo.

Thanks, and your right, I am not sure where norc falls into on this - but it sounds like cheap commercial plinking ammo like AE etc. should function fine.
