Some vids from Sunday, June 3, 2012 at WRAS 3 Gun

The best part of a shoot styled like these is that you get to problem solve. If everybody shoots it exactly the same way.....its pretty boreing. There is always the "spirit of the game" in effect but, your a big boy figure it out and improve your skills, problem solveing and judgement. You will loose some and you will win some. This game has been played in Spruce for a long time and it is always fun. Untill you have designed some stages... give the guys some credit. its a lot tougher than you think to design a perfect stage...Hiccups happen.

Well, that's not what I'm talking about dude. I am a "big boy" and trust me, I can figure it out just as well as anyone. No need for you to be condescending bro. I do give them credit, but why were there sticks on the ground dictating how far from the pistol targets you had to stay later in the day at the end of stage 2 and not early in the day? Starting loaded with the shotgun at the breach is a LOT faster than unloaded too btw... I never once #####ed about how the stages were designed, just that it seems that the stages were run a little differently by different groups. I'm not bashing anyone or throwing the unfair card cause frankly it wouldn't make a huge difference in my scores, lol! I'd still be in the bottom 3rd! All I'm bringing to light is that the stages were run a bit different and that maybe we could all, as a group of shooters, do something to ensure we all run the them approximately the same way?

There's a big difference in what I'm talking about and how a shooter chooses to engage his targets which is more along the lines of what you sound like you're mentioning. I'm not saying everyone should shoot the stage exactly the same way, but there would be a LARGE time difference in starting loaded and unloaded on the door breach stage. 20-30 seconds on a 1.5-2 min stage is a LARGE difference in my eyes.

Oh, and I'm not 13 dude, I know I need to improve my skills. I'm a new shooter in essence, but I'm not new to competing. No need to make me sound like I'm a child whining about something that I'm not. I was just bringing it to light. I really could give a crap if I finish last or first, but in order for anyone to have an idea of where they are in scoring there needs to be an even playing field for everyone. If there's anything more after helping set up the courses that I can do at the next match after I return from Albania in mid July, I would be welcome to help with it.

*Edit: Essentially what I mean is, if there is no consistency in how the stages are run, why keep scores or times? If it's a free for all then lets just keep it that way. Run what ya brung and have fun!:D

I was not intending to sound condesending at all.
I did not realize that was what you were refering to(loaded vs. unloaded). I have all to often seen new people show up and think that "its all wrong,we must change it". The sentiment I was trying to express was give the guys a break, mistakes happen. These guys all are unpaid RO's and shooters.

Lol... No, no... I LOVE the way stages are! I even kinda like that 8-port cause it SO challenging, haha! I would volunteer to RO, but I'm still an FNG... :( I should probably do a lot of scoring this year and learn more before I offer to RO and get screwed up with it.

I do agree that mistakes are made and it's not a huuuuge deal. Just thought it was interesting how things were different. It also maybe brings to light that on the stage instructions those are things that should be highlighted though. I know even Ken ran through stage 1 and wasn't aware we had to stay behind the plywood on the ground in order to engage the targets on the board with our pistol. He didn't and engaged them from up close and I believe it resulted in a long discussion about why.

You sound very enthusiastic and I do urge you to have fun, learn lots. Its an addicting and ever evolveing game. And yes RO,s are always needed,it lets the core guys involved in hosting enjoy more.

Again, I appologize if seemed condecending, that was the furthest from what I was meaning.
Anyhow...Safe trip and likely see you in the fall. :)

Some of the guys in our squad started stage 4 with a fully loaded shotgun, with the different types of shells carefully alternated in the tube. Things didn't always go as planned. The flipper target got some birdshot instead of a slug at least once. I decided to play it safe and only loaded 2 for the breach, then popped in my slug for the flipper.

The reloads definately add time, but I still managed to put in a good run time. I tried to buy some 12g snap caps yesterday to practice, but WSS was all out. For me, remembering to engage all the targets will make the biggest difference in my time. LOL

No worries dude, on the interwebz misunderstandings happen all the time, lol! Sorry if I took it the wrong way too!

@ DaveC - I haven't been able to find 9mm or 12Ga snap caps/dummy rounds at all anywhere this year... Frustrating really. Maybe I'll make some dummy rounds up with my old man's loader...

Hmmm. Dummy rounds you say? :D

Any chance you could make up some extras? I could use 8 to practice with. I'd be happy to buy them, trade you some ammo or something or there's always the manly currency of the beer of your choice. :)

9mm or 12Ga?

I usually do this for my rifles anyway to ensure any kind of gunsmithing I do at home ie. trigger jobs, action polishing. It's not hard, but to mount bullets I need the dies for the calibre's is all. For shotty dummies I might just get a buddy of mine who has a progressive shot shell loader to make a pile up from old shells I have. I could get a BUNCH made and just bring them to the next 3-gun I go to. The brass rifle shells/pistol shells I leave the primer in and just drill a hole in the side to prevent any confusion.

I'm thinking 12ga to practice fumbling rounds into the tube.

The Tipton ones are actually cheaper at Cabelas.ca than they are at Brownells.

They're $7.69 for a pair, but they're not going to have the same feel or weight as a real shotgun shell.

That would be cool. My buddy and I don't reload shotgun shells. I have a bunch of hulls, but most are 3". If a guy has an odd color, that would be great for the duds, like those Federal pink ones for breast cancer that they had.

I was thinking the pink ones too, or those odd black ones I sometimes see. 2 3/4" shells would be best for sure as I think all of us don't run 3" shells for 3 gun, lol... I'll be away till mid July for work, but I'll see what I can manage for the 3 gun I'll be at after that. I could get them loaded with pellet and power core minus the primer and powder and they'd be just like the real thing, :)

*Edit: It certainly wouldn't cost me $8 a pair to make either... that's ridiculous, lol!

for 12g dummies, I just shoot them, then fill up some empty shells with epoxy, you can get syringes of its at hardware stores and some dollar stores. or use dap/caulk, just make sure your not getting any on the outside of the shell

just have to pop the primer before hand so striker falls on the filling

That's got me thinking. Pop the primer out, put some silicone in the bottom, add some sand, cap it with more silicone, and try to fold it all back in.

Hmmm. To the Batcave!

Hmmm... dunno if I'd want anything with sand in it inside my firearms though. Maybe a sand/glue mixture just to be safe?

I was going to mix it with silicone, but its not really heavy enough. Going to need lead shot, I think

I got some 12ga bird and some slugs from them. That's how I practice!

Dave, I'll be receiving my NEA on Monday! It's sitting at the "local delivery office" according to Canada Post tracking... I intend to drop my Timney trigger in right away. Any interest in doing a range day? ;)

Good news! I'd like to go this week, but it dependa on whether I need to go out of town or not. When were you thinking of going?

I will definately go before the Steel Challenge. I need the pistol practice for sure.

Those dummy rounds are awesome! It's not worth my time to screw around trying to make some for that price.

I second that! I'm just gonna order some of those puppies in 12ga!!! Lol, I should get 50 and see if anyone wants some. 10 doesn't sound like enough for just myself...
