Sons of guns

Its an awful, badly contrived "reality" show.

Look up the shop on google maps/street view: the sign only goes up for the cameras.

Guys the TV show is geared for the masses, not that I like defending it but "it is what it is" I think they should come up with some better ideas for there script though and less drama. Also really they should have taken the MR556 and had Kyle use that rifle, I'm not to sure they actually did that, I think they just used a 10.4 upper or did they actually cut the 14.5 barrel on the 416 that was brought by the HK sales rep? If they did what a waste....lol. The show does reach the masses though and is not geared for people in the know, look on the bright side it does bring more people into the hobby.

I guess in reality they are just a small shop that makes rifles geared for the "Joe Blow" who wants an AR, and that is what most of the AR/AK market is to some extent.

Yup I was screaming at the TV "WHY THE EFF ARE YOU CUTTING DOWN A PERFECTLY GOOD HK BARREL WHEN YOU COULD JUST GET ONE IN THE RIGHT LENGTH????"

I think maybe it was an invented reason to show them doing some kind of work beyond just assembly, but oy...

One of my friends visited their shop when he was in the states last year. He was unimpressed, as am I. Anyone ever notice they machine AR receivers to add "features" and rather than re-anodize, they just spray paint them? Yuck.

Totally hear that...

They need to raise their game big time in my opinion; the money they are making off that show if it is significant should go into buying some high end equipment, and the ability to start making barrels. They should probably hire an engineer or too as well. I have only watched 2 episodes so I may be wrong on what they actually have in their shop, but raising the standard is what I would be doing if that is all possible for them.

The other episode I watched was in relation to them putting on a demo for some general and trying to get a contract, if they are serious they need to get the ability to actually make the rifle for a start.

I think it's tremclad. But they put the red jacket symbol on it. That's got to be worth another 100 yards with a tight grouping.

Duck Dynasty is entirely scripted. However, it's funny.

Sons of Guns is just stupid as all hell and makes all gun owners look bad. Hell, it makes machinists look bad. The episode when will was yelling at the guy for wanting a depth micrometer, I just about flew down there to stab him in the eye with a spoon. What shop that does any type of precision work with metal doesn't own a depth mic? Any what boss gets made when his workers want the proper tool? Complete and utter bullspit added for "drama".

Remember when channels like Discovery, Nat Geo, and TLC used to be all about educational stuff and less crap drama?

However, unfortunately you almost can't have a reality TV show that doesn't have some form of scripted drama. A show about gunsmithing without drama has almost no sustainability. Many of their projects are relatively boring, since all they do is slap on some Magpul mall ninja stuff on their "revolutionary" AR receiver. Even end of the last season, when they did the zombie gun build-off, all Will did was submit an M16 with an M203 as his build, and he made it sound like he added improvements to it, like rails and a bayonet lug.

And somehow almost every week, they do something that's so revolutionary, that it's absolutely inconceivable that no one has or would ever think of.... such as attaching a shotgun to an AR15 for tactical breaching. I mean, it's just so out there, that even Knight's Armament couldn't possibly think of doing something even remotely similar.

What's next for these guys? Maybe they'll invent a brand new revolutionary calibre, and call it the 6.8 SPC or 300 Blackout... no one would ever think of that right?

I guess, the show is geared towards an audience who doesn't watch the military channel on a regular basis, or own or work with firearms. It just seems pretty boring when you build your own ARs and actually know about guns.

I wasn't very impressed. All they did was cut down the barrel and slap a bunch of common, off the shelf components into it, which isn't really that special or interesting.

This exactly, i caught 2 minutes of it as they fitted an off the shelf stock, and slid on some pretty standard looking BUIS. Even my wife wasn't impressed, and she doesn't know much about gun stuff.

If you guys have netflix and want some good viewing, check out "happy people: a year in the taiga" Werner Herzog documentary about hunters in Siberia.

Actually in this instance I really think that hayden is too stupid to undestand the need for a depth mic. Remember this is the shop who bought CNC machinery and had no idea that simply sending a drawing to the machine will not make it work. I thought the tech from HAAS was going to laugh his ass off any second.

It was nice when Chris Kyle hugged the navy helicopter doorgunner guy........I shed a tear. "I probably flew with you SEAL guys out on a few missions"

Really?

I did flip back later when Kyle when was going through the kill house........I quickly changed back too the game.

Boooo!! Hissssssssssss!!

I tuned in for the first time after a work buddy told me Chris Kyle was going to be on. Being a big fan of his and having read his book, I was excited to see what was going on.

That show is garbage and I think Mr Kyle could smell the bullsh*t... especially when Nutsy the Choppa-Gunna read his oh-so-scripted sob story. It was like, "Here's a hug, please shut up." It was funny watching the bossman pretend to be a big wheel around Kyle and the HK el presidente.

I stopped watching Sons of Guns after the whole Beretta / Desert Eagle idiocy

I watch Duck Dynasty it is hilarious. I catch myself speaking like Uncle Si all the time jack.
