Receiver replacement only works until they "variant" the replacement receivers into the category. These guns are now named prohibs, reason not required.
Not law yet...

They are not named prohibs though. By nature of their once full auto receivers, by Canadian law they are prohib. The rcmp was following the letter of the law - after approving these guns they gained new in formation to suggest they were built on converted automatic receivers, which is a big no no. .
You would think that someone would take this opportunity to make coin, but.....this is Canada....home of the timid. An American entrepreneur would jump at the chance.....but again this is Canada...home of the timid.
When in the manufacturing process is a full auto receiver legally deemed to be that? When its 100% completed with serial number affixed? 80%? 50%? When assembled for the first time into a barrelled action? Complete firearm?
These were new rifles delivered from the manufacturer CZ. Does anyone really know how CZ put these rifles together?
it doesn't make sense from a cost perspective.
Can you say CSA clone thread.. Never thought Id ever hear that...
But if the libetards want to play games. Im ready to play.
If I'm not mistaken, there is a block welded into the receiver to prevent the use of full auto trigger groups. My understanding is the rifles in question were built on military receivers that were modified to no longer accept an auto sear. They were not originally manufactured to become semi auto only guns, that happened after the fact.
Notice how this doesn't apply to vz58, which are purpose built semi autos, and not the repurposed ex - military receivers used in the 858?
It has nothing to do with timidness, rather economics. At the cost of a receiver, plus the difficulty of barrel installation on a CZ858, it doesn't make sense from a cost perspective. I'm sure someone will offer the service but the cost will probably be close to just buying a CSA vz-58.
I honestly guess no one has a slight clue to even why the cz858 (2v/2p etc...) rifles are going prohibited then.
It is all because of the cz858 versions being built off of old FULL AUTO receivers and being converted to semi.
Under the law you CAN NOT do that.
Being said the reasons why the CSA vz58 rifles aren't named is cuz they are built off of NEWLY manufactured semi only receivers. (Not off of converted ones)
Hence why they aren't being touched....... for now but that can be said for every single firearm
I honestly think this is a temporary problem. Until the PC's get back in.
Also, why is everyone assuming the 2005-2006 CZ-858 rifles will be prohib? The way I read it they are just reversing the motion made by the PC's. There was never any reason to prohib those early rifles so if they are banning them as a "variant" now all of a sudden you can include the VZ58s as well.

Anyway, if any actual sponsors could chime in on the possibility of providing NR receivers and a gunsmithing service to transplant the barrel, that would be awesome!

Arms East has an approved FRT (166182) for our VZN-58 Rifle/Receiver and the ability to produce fairly quickly. We are exploring the situation and will have more to say on it in the coming days.

Like stated in other threads. Just change the markings on the Cz858 to Vz58 markings.
Pretty simple solution to a simple problem.
