Southern Alberta Precision Rifle League Match: June 3, 2017 Taber Shooting Foundation

Slim78 made me this sweet muzzle brake. Look for it at the match.

We will also start to have some sponsorship announcements rolling out over the next couple weeks.

Sorry about the short fuse. This event has been underway for nearly 4 months now already and we have thought about as much as we can.

I should say that these are also not ground targets just staked into the ground. They are actually popper style/spring set type targets so they do have give in them.

Slim78 is quite the fabricator and is putting a tonne of time into this and the targets.

Glad you have it covered. Last year I travelled several hundred miles to go to a shoot only to arrive and find it was cancelled due to the steel targets creating a safety concern by the range management. The organizor had targets similar to what slim designed, but were bolted to 2x4 stakes driven into the ground. The targets were straight up and down and would have led to spall coming back. Several of the targets were placed at 100 yards.
With steel targets becoming slightly controversial especially in Canada shoot organizers have to really look closely at how their steel is deployed and the possibility of bullets coming back. Something I have noticed in Canada is that many ranges employ skip berms, something seldom seen in range in the USA.
I was not meaning any insult, just posing some questions based on many years of shooting at different ranges all over North America.
Best of luck with the venture gents!!

I can see how immovable targets can pose an issue. With no give in them where are the fragments supposed to go.

Using the correct steel is also very important. Dimpled steel is much more dangerous and leads to more ricochets.

We also have no targets closer than 100 metres.

Post #1 has been updated with some sponsors. Look out for more as we get closer to the event.

Same here. Looking forward to the match. To echo what has already been said, all the hard work, time, and commitment by all involved to put the match on is much appreciated.

This is great! I am incredibly new to this but I would love to participate and see what it's all about. Kudos to those who have put the effort into organizing this.
