Speed Reload Video - Youtube

Travis Tomasie is "someone who's safety practices are questionable" ????

1) All guns are always loaded.
2) Never point the gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target (and you have made the decision to shoot).
4) Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

Which of these rules did he violate.

Post a video of you teaching and lets see how well you do, the quality of the video will be interesting to see, especially without having a camera downrange to properly illustrate techniques.

Also, If you know anything about lens angles, depth compression with long lenses, and depth of field when filming, you would know you can appear to be in front of the camera using a long lens, but actually be many degrees off the X.

If you are making training videos or placing videos on the internet you do not know who will be viewing them. In my opinion, safety practices should not be open to question. Especially if you are professing to be a professional. You do not know who will be looking at these videos and you should not be showing anything that can be deemed questionable or unsafe. There are enough people out there already that are not safe, they do not need to be influenced by someone who's safety practices are questionable.

He is the world IPSC standard division Champion,...I don't think he got that far by being unsafe. You don't know your ass from your face. While you are at it,...why don't you question Eric Grauffel and Adam Tyc. (huhn,..who are they?) why do I bother.:feedTroll:

total B'"# S¨$T

for most people that #####es around CPL Travis Tomasie video they do not understand

it's a DEMO
for LEARNING
he his Flawless in his technique and safety when the LAMR is given

for most of you who #####es about safety on range while doing a demo video about speed reload you just have too much time on your hands ...perhaps you should drive to the range to pratice reloads ......so you should get better an not finish last in matches

for video purpose the gun might have been modified with short firing pin like all the guns 3 GM 1 and 3 GM-2

so quit your little #####ing about safety ,,,,reload some ammo ....drive to the range ..practice and be safe when LAMR and gain some respect

All he needed to do was unload the firearm and prove it save before he turned it 180. Just because someone is an IPSC champion does not mean that they can not do unsafe practices. That particular video was wrong and I do not care what championships he has won. I have won many shooting matchs and collected many prizes and trophies in shooting, that does not mean I am free to swing and unproven gun about on the range. I also commented about the people who watch these videos being infulenced by them. My point has just been proven as Maurice and YYYYY seem to feel that because the man is an IPSC champion that he can do no wrong. Therefore the next time you go to the range it must be alright to not prove the firearm safe and swing it about. Hey everbody, it ok for me to wave my firearm about the range I'm an IPSC champ there is no danger. As for the gentleman that believes we have to much time on our hands because we are commenting on this video, you must have too much time on your hands because you are commenting on our comments. Also, I might add forums are for commenting.

They didn't show it, the slide was closed and the mag was in. Therefore the gun was not proven safe. Also remember that our heros are just human and make mistakes like the rest of us. The higher the pedestal we place them on the longer the fall. Just because someone happens to be great at shooting, skiing, singing, baseball, hockey or any other profession or hobby, or is just a great person does not mean that everything they do is above question and perfect. Each and every time I go to the range I must prove to the people that I am shooting with that I am handling my firearms in a safe manner. They must prove the same thing to me. That is why the shooting sports are as safe or safer than any other hobby. The more visible you are in the shooting sports, in my opinion, means that your actions influence more people, therefore you should project nothing that is not professional. After all the comments and discussion I still feel that the video, as played, was wrong. I am not questioning his shooting, his championships, or that he is a great person, just the fact that he is a professional on a video swing an obviously unproven gun around. If you still feel that a firearm with a closed slide and a magazine in it that is swung in at least a 180 degree arc is a safe practice to show on a video then I do not know what other arguments to put forward to change your opinions.

So instead of a 3 min video on how to improve technique we can watch a 15 minute video primarily showing TT unloading and showing clear, well that would be fun.....

Well FWIW gentlemen, seems to me that the first segment of this video our 'horribly unsafe' Mr. Travis was using a SA 19/2011 pistol.......couldnt help but notice the hammer down.....hmmmmmm. Second pistol, Glock, seems to me no finger in the trigger, no possibility of discharge, loaded or not. Also remembering my Military days, ROE's and training are a world away from typical stand on the line pistol shooters. Amd yes BUD, the consensess here is that you are being completely unreasonable. You tell me on either one of those 2 firearms drills either one of those 2 pistols could have been accidentally discharged and I will agree with your somewhat ridiculous observation. If not, I suggest that you continue to live in your textbook classroom shooting world and not try to speculate on the saftey aspect of a situation that you have not personally witnessed yourself. As many of my shooting collegues have expressed very passionately, yours are nothing more than words and opinion, when you can bring FACTS to this thread you may get an ounce of respect towards your opinion.............or not. Just my humble somewhat uneducated opinion .

it's a ####ing video, with a remote camera, I don't care if he shoots the ####ing camera. it's still safe. he did nothing unsafe, at any time. if you have an issue with his video maybe you should contact him and explain it. in the meantime don't bother coming to my range.

He's with the US Army marksmenship unit, I don't think we need to split hairs about safety.

This vid was actually informative for me

Curtdad

Leaving the slide closed and the mag in and swinging the pistol 180 degrees will get you disqualified in any pistol match and in any IPSC match that I have competed in during the last 35 years. I do not know how they do it at the ranges that you compete on. My text book world consists of having won every one of the three big bowling pin match that took place in the 80's and 90's in the province of Ontario multiple times. I have competed in NRA style bullseye matchs, bowling pin matchs, Second Chance matchs in Michigan. Did very well back then. IPSC matchs, steel matches, action shotgun matches, trap matchs, won a few and done well in most of them. I am a PAL instructor a wilderness handgun instructor, I have taken the IPSC pistol and rifle safety courses, and yes there was a rifle IPSC course at one time I have the black badge to prove it, the OHA range officer safety course. The IPSC range officers course. I have trophies and firearms that I have won in matches in Ontario and the USA over the last 35 years coming out my wazoo. I was on the board of my local shooting club for 14 years. I have competed in Ontario, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesotta, Nevada, Arizona and California. I just spent 2 months in Nevada competing. I could go on but you would probably think I was bragging or lying. I am also not stating that I am the greatest shooter in the world, I just happen to be a long term competitive shooter that takes safey very seriously. As a matter of fact now that I think about it I even have a IPSC trophy from the Sault Ste. Marie shoots back in the 80,s or 90,s, can't remember the date, that states I am a master class IPSC shooter. Never believed that myself but I still have the trophy. What are the credentials that you base your opinions on??????

:eek:Dude, you're my f**king hero! :jerkit: :jerkit: Too bad I don't see a USPSA national championship or a worldshoot championship in your "list of why you rock"
Wash your hair with vasoline, it might make it easier to get your head out of your ass! When everyone's all done being dicks about Travis why don't you hack on all the film directors and movie producers out there for all their unsafe gun practices? sweaping the camera, cast and crew, shooting at the other cast members. We don't know those guns are shooting blanks, or unloaded...... Some people just seem to have too much chlorine in their gene pools but not enough to stop them from posting their assinine opinions on the web. If you don't like it fine, shut the f**k up and spare the rest of us from you're stupidity!

When we can not come up with sound rational arguments to discuss a point of difference in our opinions we can always resort to insults and profanity. The above list was not to let the world know that I rock as you put it but to explain to curtdad that I might have actually put a few rounds down range and that not everyone that disagrees with you lives in a textbook classroom. I respect your right to disagree with me.

!

Thanks to Travis, the AMU and to Seth for posting the vid. Nothing unsafe, nothing wrong in that situation. Of course we'd change some details in a full, live class but given what we can see and what we know it looks great

I woke up a little groggy this morning but man after reading this thread I'm all smiles.

I think post twenty-eight sums up what I would want to say.

Safe informative and inspirational. We need more videos like this and less idiots who trash every damn thing out there in our sport.

Huh?

All he needed to do was unload the firearm and prove it save before he turned it 180...

Sorry, but while safety is always a priority...this is a vid clip. It is not a continuous shot. Angles change, guns change.....it's called editing!

Relax and take it for what it is...a tip from a pro on reloading...that's it:D
