Speed Shooting - Kyle Defoor

Yeah, I really like Kyle Defoor but the whole "other strong hand" thing is dumb IMO. I get why he's doing that, but I don't buy into the theory at all. Too bad, because other than that I really like his stuff. He's one of the few remaining guys I would place a serious premium on training with.

great thread with lots of great information, I am always close to the top in my local IDPA competitions and two things I have to work on to get better in IDPA are speed and recoil recovery.
This is great stuff.
Thank you.

That's a good idea.

Incidentally I tried out this grip today and found it maybe a little more effective at managing recoil, but for me so far I think it's slower to acquire. That is probably just a lack of familiarity with getting the index finger really buried like that though. I am also in the habit of keeping my arms a little straighter than I think I should. I've got a course coming up in a couple of weeks at which I think I'll try this out a little more, and I might try to get out to one of Rob's nights in Abby as well.

Interestingly this grip worked fine for me even with gloves on, which I really did not expect. I have big hands and I thought the support side index finger would really screw with my trigger finger, but it wasn't an issue. Shot pumpkins from about 10m - 60m with a G17k. Found the sights easier than usual to track during recoil at the close stuff. Not sure if that was the grip or the lighting, but I think it might have actually been the grip. It's a very subtle change from what I'm used to so I didn't expect to pick up any difference but subjectively it seemed to be a little tighter. I went back and forth a few times and that was my feeling throughout.

But I didn't have a timer going or anything, or even targets other than pumpkins, so no real objective data for anyone, unfortunately.

That is an interesting data point, thanks for posting.

It took me a lot of dry fire to get this grip to be second nature out of the holster, now I find it odd to grip a pistol any other way.

I had the chance for a short dry fire session with a 226 and a 1911 last night. The slimness of the 1911 through the trigger guard/frame area is very evident when using this grip.

I found it felt odd to ride the gas pedal of the 1911 with my strong hand thumb though, which made me happy, because I means keeping my thumb away from the slide release lever is getting to be ingrained now.

Let's get some more data in here before asking for a sticky. So far there isn't really anything super helpful or groundbreaking.
If you want to learn how to shoot fast you should probably look up people that actually do. Jerry M, EricG, Todd J, Rob L etc. These people have a proven history of shooting fast and teaching others to do so.

To clarify, I wasn't specifically agreeing that this thread should be a sticky.

I agree with Misanthropist that a "favorite drills" thread may prove useful.

Same here, sorry for the confusion. A new thread & sticky with only speed drills and shooting videos will be great.
I will look for some and post them here, then, we can copy paste the links in the sticky.
