Thought someone may be interested in the velocities of some 22 rimfire ammunition.
We tested a few types with a Chrony and here are the results. All are groups of five, shot with a Brno #6 rifle.

First, some old Dominion brand of CIL, long rifle.
Average 1186 fps, with an es of 28.

CCI Blazer, 1222 fps, with es of 55.

CCI standard velocity, 1055, with es of 46.

Older Winchester shorts, marked "High Velocity," with 29 grain bullet, 1149 fps, es of 85.

CCI CB shorts, 1093, es of 52.

And now, here comes the CCI Stinger long rifle.
Average 1620 fps, with an es of 13!

I think this is sort of ho hum information, except I was surprised by the CCI Stinger. It didn't give the bullet weight on the box, but the bullet looked every bit as large as 40 grain regular long rifle bullets. I didn't think they went that fast and were so even in velocity.

Good info to know- any chance of testing some others? CCI Blazer, Remington and Winchester subsonics? Cheers.

We went out last weekend and were shooting a lot of shorts. The win high velocity have always been my favorite shorts, pretty much the same aiming pattern as LR at 75 yards. But I did notice that with the CCI shorts I had to hold over the top of the target to make a hit. I was my first time using them.

The Stingers use 32gr bullets. I have seen Brno #1-5# rifles, but never a Brno #6, when were they manufactured?

Sorry about that, it is a #5.
There is also a #1 in my gun room, but I gave it to a grand daughter and she stores it at our place. Actually, there isn't that much difference between the two, is there?

CZ 452 American Ruger Mark III

Brand Box Velocity Range for 5 shots

CCI MiniMag HP 1260 1241 - 1264 997 - 1050
CCI MiniMag RN 1235 1159 - 1200 950 - 978
CCI Velocitor 1450 1242 - 1308 845 - 1017
CCI Standard 1080 1018 - 1042 876 - 902
CCI Select 1200 1147 - 1184
RWS Rifle match NK 1020 - 1037
CCI "QUIET" 710 499 - 552
CCI Stinger 1600 1177 - 1199
Winchester Bulk NK 1020 - 1065

An interesting process. While the RWS was the most consistent, the results were not that good at 50 yards.
Some of the velocities were Not Known (NK).

Eley Match, Team and Tenex publish velocities on the box.
Test for Match with a published velocity of 1063 averaged 1054 and the lot at 1062 averaged 1061.
Eley tests were done with Anschutz rifles and I used a Remington 40XR with a 20 inch Shilen barrel.

The 452 is gone and now replaced with a 455 American which likes the RWS Rifle Match so that is next.

I also did some tests last year with a few brands. We didn't write them down but I do remember the Winchester Super x being the biggest disappointment. I usually stay away from Winchester .22's but availability being what it is I bought a box of 500. Anyways for plinking it's all good.

yeah, barrel length and bullet weight please

Barrel lengths don't mean much with 22 rimfire, compared to centre fire cartridges.
A 22 rimfire will reach full velocity at something like 16 inches and with longer barrels just loses velocity at a very small rate. The rifle I used had about a 24 inch barrel, so the speeds would be very close to maximum for the cartridge.
I gave the weights for the long rifle--40 grains and for the shorts--29 grain, but I didn't know what the stingers were, but we have been told it is 32 grains.

i have used the stingers to harvest fallow deer from the big pens for meat and it really impressed me with shots out to 80 yards .all deer were head shot with a rugger 10 22 .the stingers worked very well .one shot kills .very clean burn as well .I found the Remington to burn very dirty .and just gave up on Winchester with many fail to fire .I would recommend the stingers when you can find them Dutch
