I went Grouse hunting near my home on Saturday, late afternoon. I saw a lot of grouse, but didn't get a bead on a single one. Feeling skunked, I walked back to my property which was a short 30 minute stroll from my hunting spot. Once on my land, I had the funny feeling that I was not alone. Glassing the trees, I saw the tell-tale ears watching me from behind a hill about 100 yards away. I have a lot of deer, but rarely can get close to a buck. When I saw the spikes on this guy...
... a couple of slugs went into the 870. Watching and waiting, the doe and buck bolted, stopped and returned to where I was waiting. I was shocked that they doubled back almost right to me, they were curious what I was doing. The buck presented perfectly at 50 yards slightly downhill from my spot, and off went the safety...

And in the fridge he went, aging for a week (or more) at 1°.

I'll finally get a chance to open one of the spicy peach salsa jars we canned this summer, to have with a mule deer roast.

Geo call me when you get home I maybe free to go out with you.

Nice buck Lionhill I shot a 2 point in the Mackenzie area about a month ago.

I forgot to take any pictures though.

nice little spiker.

got one last year that almost qualified as antlerless here in Alberta, spikes were about 5"

(alberta rules say under 4" is considered antlerless :) )

Antlered Animal- means a member of
the deer family over one year of age bearing
visible bony antlers.

(whew - made me look) :)

Thanks for all the comments

:D I had to look that one up too, every province is going to be different.

But I guess the set 4" here as the definition of what is "reasonably visible"

asked a CO about it and they said well they would of accepted either tag on it. Gee thanks  seeing as the general tag says antlered or antlerless on it.

good eats them young ones
