I purchased an SKS of another CGN member about 2 weeks ago. When I try to fire the rifle it cracks the brass and does not cycle. It does fire and the action does remain closed.
It is a Chinese SKS, I tried the .223 ammo provided by the seller and ammo I had purchased. I have only shot TOTAL 3 rounds and have put it in the corner until I can solve the problem. It blew all three casings in relatively the same spot in the same manner. I figure it’s not an ammo problem and more than likely a headspace problem. I tried 2 shots after I had got it home, then I tried another shot a few days ago after I gave it a real through cleaning. After each shot the bolt did not cycle and I had to remove the shell with some effort, handy having a removal tool with you.
Is there any way for me to check the head space with out buying the headspace tool, or with out taking it to a gunsmith and getting repairs done for more than what I paid for the rifle?
Or could the problem be a pinned barrel, I’ve been too busy to check in the past week, but I will try today.
The seller has assured me that he provided me the exact ammo that he was previously using, and it was working fine before he sold it to me.
