Splitting the precision rifle forum. Is it just me?

I think it would play well with the benchrest guys. As the forum was and how the word "precision" has become murky, I believe it was driving them off to greener pastures.

Separating was the right thing to do. I somewhat dislike the new titles given to the subforums today, but whatever. Gets the job done.

is like saying SUVs are so different from sportscars that each should have their own roads to get around, and never the two shall cross. T

.

Plus many threads will be defined out of a category and not into another one. To get better control you could make up along list of thread titles and make people pick one, no one would ever start a thread that didnt belong.

Wait..... Does this mean we are now allowed to use the word "build" to refer to rifles that aren't full custom shop jobs? :p

If your primary use or intent is shooting paper targets at nice even distances on a square range, post your question in the other forum. If your primary use or intent is shooting targets at random distances under field condition, post the question in this forum. If you think you will be doing both, post based on the one that is your priority. No one is being excluded.

Ultimately, the majority will be happier and information will better fit the intended end use of person asking the question. It is far easier to just move a thread to another forum than to try and untangle a mess that goes off in all directions.

Nope. And the point I made was in the context of tactical precision guns being used on a range vs. in field shooting, in a forum specific to tactical shooting. So, why is benchrest even being brought up?

I was just having some fun with you , Benchrest was grouped in with the square range stuff ,splitting is probably good , apples and oranges

I'm super pumped about the changes. Practical shooting disciplines are growing at a very fast pace and this gives a place to share what we are learning.

I'd like to give a huge thanks to Kombayotch for making this happen!

:highFive:

This can only help the growth of practical precision shooting in Canada

When someone in the US shows up to a PRS match with a 100lb front rest and bunny ear rear bags we can talk about how the skill set is getting closer.

Nay, 13oz and you are good....

I too am positive about the split not because it "divides" us but because it puts certain groups of info into separate locations. This makes it easier to consume and to discuss.

I have learnt from all disciplines and fully intend to absorb what I can from PRS style tech.

The irony is that PRS shooters will learn as much from F Class and BR shooting as they will from Biathlon, silhouette, US high power, Euro field target, even IPSC/3 Gun.

What intrigues me about PRS is that it is the "soup" of the target shooting world... all skills can be useful at some point so you better start learning as much as you can from EVERYONE

Fun, fun, fun...

Jerry

Have to admit im not a fan either. The rifles i have are more prs style but so far, because the mythic "field shooting" (hasnt barely actually happened in Canada and i shoot them on regular ranges)has its own thread, now i have to post in target rifles? Seems goofy to me. And what about companies like PGW that make field rifles that get shot on square ranges? Silly.

Just post in the one you shoot in. Who cares what gun you shoot it how you shoot it that's the difference

We had a sporting rifle forum and a precision forum before. Both had threads about the same model rifles (Rem, Savage, Tikka varmint rifles). Both had threads about the same aftermarket parts and upgrades. Nothing has changed in that regard.

I mainly lurk on these forums as I seldom have anything useful to say (I am not a competitive shooter) however I do notice a certain elitism that occurs with specific sports and a few "elite" competitors do not like crossover posts that don't use the exact verbiage or discuss exactly what they are personally involved in. This of course is not unique in the shooting industry and also occurs in other non related industries but I think it helps keep those specific users happy in not having to look at posts not directly related to their discipline (like this post for example). Phil.

Jeebus guys, I think it was stated earlier that if it doesn't end up working they can merge it back. Why don't we give it a bit of time before we say that it is a terrible idea.

Some of the crossover concerns seem legit.

Would it be worth considering that this type of forum might be more suitably found under the Shooting Sports and Activities header since it is more about equipment and usage?

Edit: Forget that! Thought about it for a minute.. The purpose, I believe, is to support specific information (on rifles..) for and from a specific crowd of people.

Meh, either way is good, what would be great is putting the stickies at the bottom of the first page instead of the top! Stickies are great, but I don't access them every time I go to a section and I have to scroll past them to get to threads that I do access! They would still be there, just out of the way till we needed to find information!
