Spotting scope?

Boy I'm sick of going to the range and having to beg for a moment of time squinting into another guy's spotting scope to look at my target.

I'm not likely to go on many more backpack sheep hunting trips in my life so I probably don't need (and can't afford anyway) a real high-end spotting scope.

I need one for the range and maybe for scouting distant drainages mule deer hunting once in a while.

Would the Bushnell Trophy class of scope fit my purposes?

Or should I splurge and jump up over the $300 mark for something better?

I see most scopes come in 15 - 45 power or 20 - 60.

What is more practical? I'll bet over 45 is way too wobbly isn't it? I remember using a friend's spotting scope last year and the higher power we used, the harder it was to pinpoint something and harder to focus.

I just went through the hoops of buying a spotter. I purchased a Legend 20-60 X 65mm for $312.00

The Trophy will do ya fine on the range; but better can be had without breaking the bank.

That's why tripods were invented... I'm also gonna get a window mount for mine.

Good luck.

Trust me, the other guys on the range aren't too happy about you having to beg to look through their scopes either. Look in the optics threads about Konus spotting scopes.

To be honest Maynard, I go thursday mornings once every month or so and the one guy I ask is a pretty good friend.

MD, you will never wear out your friends scope just by looking through it:p
The Konus Scopes are great for the money, even with shippng and duty from the US. Someone on here just got one for $200US +$30 Can.
