hollllllllllllllllllllllly crap......was at bass pro other day to get some goodies.............on my list of wants was some spray lube for reloading............
but at $16.++++++++ a can i said fark that...
so what a good affordable substitute to use as a spray lube?

way back i remember reading a thread on this ...but i can not seem to find it:redface:

Imperial sizing wax. Not sure what the current price is, I'm only half way through a tin I bought eons ago for $5.00. I think it gone up some but I bet it's still under $10.00.

I think there are some guys that disolve lanolin in something that evaporates (rubbing alcohol?). They should be along shortly with the details.

I resize between 1500-2000 rounds of .308 a year using spray on lube. I think the last 6oz. can lasted about 3 years.

Lee brand case lube can be diluted with water for spray use. I place my brass to be lubed into a large clean plastic peanut butter jar. I then spray the lube into the jar and quickly screw on the lid. A sixty second shake/ tumble coats the brass nicely without all of the lube ending up in the atmosphere or onto your loading block.

I use that Lyman spray lube, very happy with it. I've used the same can for the last 2 years, thats thousands of rounds and there is still alot left in there. Worth the $15 in my books.

This is what I use:
BRASS SPRAY LUBE FORMULA _ 1 part liquid lanolin and 4 to 5 parts parts 99% isopropyl alcohol. Do not get alcohol less than 99%.
Pure Liquid Lanolin mixes better if you warm both the alcohol and lanolin in a bath of warm water to about 105 - 110 degrees F before mixing. DO NOT WARM EITHER OF THEM OVER AN OPEN FLAME! When warm, pour together, mix thoroughly, allow the mix to cool (mix occasionally as it cools) and store in an air tight container to prevent water from being absorbed by the isopropyl.

Am using this formula with perfect results for my .223 & .308 brass. Its extremely economical and effective. Happy re-loading!!!

so how do you apply the mixture on brass? with a cheap spray bottle?

thanks for the tip on the formula:cheers:

I've been using the hornady one shot case lube for a few months now... can't believe I ever lubed cases any other way. It does seem like the can should last a long time, though the home brewed spray lube seems interesting as well.

eXACTLY! Cheap spray bottle. Just make sure you shake it well prior to use. Spread out the brass on a baking sheet, pass it with the spray evenly once then shake the tray so the brass can roll. Leave alone for about 10 minutes or so (to let the alcohol evaporate), then start sizing. After sizing, the trimming, deburring and pri. pkt. cleaning get done and they're ready for loading. Good luck and happy shooting!!!!:ar15:

Brother cheapskate....er, I mean Foggy :D

I use whatever is kicking around. I think the stuff I grabbed from the shop last time is called Teflube 2000. I spray a little of that into a plastic container of brass and shake it around for a minute. I also use 10w30, 5w30 or whatever is kicking around on a case lube pad. I smear a little (very little) around the inside of the neck with a q-tip and that's it. I've never paid the premium prices they want for some of these lubes and I've never had a problem.

Same here, way easier and faster than hand lubing, plus I use the plastic tub with a lid method as well.

I just tried the Redding/Imperial sizing wax and really like it. A little on your fingers goes a long way and you have to handle the cases to put them in the press anyway. I think it was around $8 at WSS.

Yup.

Or, if you don't want the trouble, you can buy it from Dillon. Basically the same stuff, and works like a damned charm. I'll never go back to anything else.

I bought my Lanolin off of Evilbay for about 10 bucks and I have had it for 4 years now.

As Doc M said I will not go back to the pad and roll routine again.

I also use a cookie sheet I picked up at the dollar store and put the brass in rows. I spray the one side and let it sit for about 10 minutes and then with my hand I just roll all the cases to the other side and spray lube again and off I go to the press.
