Hello all,

I am new to pistol shooting. I have been shotgunning and rifle shooting for years so I'm no stranger to firearms.

I am wondering if anyone has any information, experience, words of wisdom with respect to the Sprinfield XD. I am considering purchasing this handgun (chambered in 9mm) as my first handgun but would like to know how others like and/or dislike it and why?

Thanks

The XD series of pistols are terrific value for their cost.
The grip fits just about everyone (the grip and angle is closest to a P226, not a 1911 as many will insist), the manual of arms is as simple as a Glock, (but not as fugly and has the addition of the grip safety), it is reliable, accurate, easy to field strip and clean and doesn't weigh a ton.
XD9's can be bought new from $700. You won't be disappointed. ;)

Probably the best handgun you could buy for a first gun.

I wrote a little review few weeks ago about the XD9. Here it goes

Hi,

What is more exciting than receiving a nice package from Wolf supply? Knowing that there is a brand new handgun in there…

It’s exactly what was waiting for me yesterday night. I ordered a Springfield Armory XD9 Tactical last Monday, a week later it was at my door step.

So I ran to the range with it.

First of all, you have to know that I am a 1911 guys. I like heavy and really stiff gun, but I recently read way to much comment about the XD9 and decided to buy one.

My fist surprise was to see how stiff the gun is for a 700$ rig. It comes with two shinny stainless magazines, a holster, two mags pouches and a kind of speed loader (that I didn’t try yet).

The gun is light and feels real good in my hand. I handle a lot of gun, and for some reason I really like the XD9. It’s very well balanced and point naturally.

So it was BANG time. I placed the target at 7 yards for a little warm-up session. In a nice and steady pace I shot 5 rounds to the target. All 5 rounds where dead on center in a nice 1 inch group. My first reaction was surprise. The little gun shoot where it point. Period. The gun cycling is real smooth, it feels good and seems really accurate. I had really good result at 10 yard either. Next session I’ll push it a little …

I shot 100 rounds … absolutely no failure to feed … it went bang every time.

I just wanted to say that it is a really cheap handgun for what it is. It is WAY better than what I was expecting. I will not say it louder, but I would have pay a higher price for that gun. I really think that the reason of its low price is to flood the market and make it known.

A really good experience …a really good shooter. I’ll use it in IPSC without a doubt.

Ho and the field strip was joke ….

Handle one before you buy it (if you gonna have it shipped)
I personally don't like the grip; there is not enough angle for my taste (reminds me of a Tokarev) Too bad we can’t have a 4in version (prohib) I find 5in to be on the ugly side… but they seem to be reliable.

If you want a polymer gun consider a Steyr M-A1 I find it to have better ergonomics and it’s about the size of a Glock 19 /XD 4in you can get one for under $800.

Great gun at a great price. Well balance. grip is way more comfort than most of the plastic gun. Accurate too. I personal think Glock shoot a little better for me but I think it just myself. Don't own both but shot both. I think they are good buy.

When the XD-9's first came out, I hopped on the bandwagon and bought a 5" Tactical. As others have said, it's a lot of gun for the money. Accurate, light and goes bang every time I squeeze the trigger. I'm not into competition shooting, just informal paper punching, knocking down bowling pins, silhouettes etc. :D You won't go wrong with an XD-9 IMHO

Xd?

do a search on the xd.
you will find many positive reviews like the 17000 round abuse where they drop it in mud the freeze and it still fires every time.
I just bought one, waiting to recieve it.
$720 was best price but a wait for 9mm.
I paid $750 for a 9.

Is the 100 dollar step up to the Glock worth it? Sorry to get OT but the XD is often compared to the Glock and I think is trying to eat away some Glock demographics.

I have 2, one in 9mm & one in .40 S&W. Great pistols, I may look at one in .45 as well.
I find the grip and angle more akin to the Browning Hi Power than anything else.
You may be turned off the trigger at first, as it most likely will not be anything your used to. Once you get over that, if it is a problem, I predict you be very satisfied.

I have a 5in tact XD45acp, I love it. After shooting my glock back to back with the XD I almost prefer the grip on the XD over the glock. I heard early XD models had a tendency to rust???? which should have been fixed with later models, but I dont know how they were rusting or why. I cant see you having any issues with buying a XD, but if you can Id say shoot both a glock and an XD to see which feels/fits better for you. I like both.

I own an XD40. It's OK, but just that. Not nearly as accurate as my CZ 75. Feels kinda flimsy as well.
It's a good deal for the money, but for about the same get yourself a CZ, you'll never look back.

I've got about 2-3000 rounds through my XD 9 now, no problems, very accurate, dead reliable. It's cheaper than a glock (at least around here) and fits the hand better, and has a nicer trigger (but then again what dosen't)

Buy one, you'll love it!

I have an XD9 in OD and love it. It does the one thing that a Glock 17 can't do......it fits me. Don't get me wrong, Glocks are great, its just that the 17 doesn't fit me.

And the XD9 might not fit you, so the best thing to do, before plunking down hard earned money for a new 9mm, is head to the range a try a few out.

Guff, try the Glock, CZ, Sig and XD if you can. Buy the one that fits your hand the best. If the XD9 fits you, I don't think you'll be disapointed.

ps: welcome to the board!

Since XD launched, I heard many many good comments and very little report of failure. Even if you go to Sig forum, you will still read some unacceptable failure happened on SIG pistols. But for such reasonable price, It is a great toys.

Can't let this one slip by unchallenged...:p
"Flimsy" certainly doesn't come to mind when I look at my XD...what part of the gun do you consider to be flimsy? As a point of interest, my (long gone) CZ75 was the ONLY pistol that I ever owned that failed completely when the large-headed screw that secures the trigger spring came loose while I was shooting, which completely locked up the gun's slide just short of going into battery with a live round. Not a good thing. ;)
