Spring Shooting Video: My Tavor

I admit to thinking the same thing...

I like the video, it's quite good, but you'd increase your credibility 10 fold if you dressed "normally". Or at least lost the helmet and scarf. Normally I wouldn't care, but just trying to be constructive as the rest of your vid is well done and informative.

:agree:

But a very, very well put together video for sure!!! Thanks for sharing, and cant wait to see more! :D

i think you should wear whatever the @%#$ you want when your Spring camping/shooting,as long as your getting out there and promoting the sport in a positive manner.

good vid.

I agree, and lest the sensitive types come out screaming they can dress up however they damn well want/you can deal with it/I don't like your plaid etc etc- I agree there too. You can dress up however you want, even a blue thong, but presentation means a lot, and if you want to be taken seriously, dress normally. Even the CF's would laugh if you showed up at a recruiting office for interview like that, and job interview attire's probably a good medium for what will work in gaining viewers and supporters in the public. But, maybe the OP's actually CF and has actually been to Afghanistan and came by that neck scarf honestly- anything's possible, I wait to hear. Still odd you'd want to play dress up on days off, but hey...

Credibility's important in what you're trying to do, and unfortunately, the tactical urbanite dress up (which I hadn't realized had migrated north of the American desert areas on youtube yet, you learn something new everyday) is shooting you in the foot. I'm afraid to say it, as I too thought your video was decently done and you have a good screen personality, but it screams... yea it's gotta be said, Mall Ninja. Let the firestorm from the more sensitive side of the tactical crowd attack now...

that neck scarf is way to pretty to have spent any time in Afghanistan, plus we didn't wear those colours (at least when i was there). but i will say this...there are a bunch of us (around 25 now ex-mil, but getting bigger every year) who go out on an annual one week shoot and camping trip, and we all wear camo! usually full gear (tac-vests and all), so does that make us mall ninjas or just a bunch of ex-mil guys out having fun? we also invite non-mil guys to come out and they pretty much wear the same gear as us, and i dont ever remember anyone giving them static for it. and I'm pretty @#$%*!$ far from sensitive, but i did watch "bridesmaids" with the wife last week.

I slept with the Tavor not the Fabarm! The one man tent starts to get pretty full when all my gear starts coming in. I'd like to get one of the Tasmanian Tiger Pack covers for my kit when its out overnight.

To the helmet people: I know I look silly sometimes. Having done embedded stints with the military, I recognize that there is a huge difference between what they do and what I do. But I would like to steer your attention to this photo here

This is how I move around out there. Helmets are not just for show.

I'm hoping that the helmet is going to become a spot to mount a camera when we start doing more run and guns!

I have to agree with whats been said great video, and i even get the army attire to a point its great for out in the bush, but the helm? That's just screams mall ninja, because unlike the fatigues you really don't need a helmet camping unless you have a hadicap or disorder and can't take a bonk on the head. And yes it does take away from your credibility if i'm being honest. Besides that love the tavor.

+1 This. Wear what you want and ignore the fashion police... Besides, you do need a helmet for your bike anyway and this is probably way safer anyway. And if it doubles as a camera mounting point, hey - bonus...

I'd like to see a video of you pedalling that mountain bike!

Definitely! :D

honestly, as the old saying goes; Train as you fight. If you had to fight wearing only a thong and a .22, well train as is lol.

Crown land sir. The laws of crown land.

Where do you hunt? Anywhere that it is legal to hunt it is legal to shoot. So no National Parks, no Wildlife preserves, and if you're on private land it had better be non-restricted and with the land-owners permission.

But on federally owned land-use areas (of which there are a great many in Alberta) you can shoot as much as you'd like. I still use basic safety because I'm not retarded. i.e. I shoot into the hillside not across the river and wide open plain where I was camped.

This is why I miss Alberta. NB requires transport permits for Non-Restricted firearms out of hunting season.

We aren't being fashion police, I think it's cool that he wears whatever he wants in his free time... but if the OP wants to be taken seriously as a real review guy (and I'm guessing that based on his nickname), we're just offering suggestions to help him have more success and not get shredded as a mall ninja on Youtube by the rest of the world. That's all.

I dig the bike though!

I'm a helicopter pilot and wear a helmet for work.....I don't wear it while bicycling and target shooting.

......just saying ;)

.

Rode a motorcycle in a Gentex once, took it off when I got there, and didn't wear my flight suit either. :p

Presspass, don't focus too much on the helmet that's just one minor part of the package that's curious, I do believe they make bicycle helmets though that work better for the task if that's what you're after, they even have ready to go mounts for video/gopro. Stay safe and have fun.

The unfortunate part about your dress up gig is the people on the fence who aren't shooters (or even the hunters who are) really think we're a bunch of screw loose wannabe commandos running around in the bush quoting Platoon. ;) To the uninitiated, you appear a lil... nuts. Otherwise decent vid.

Anybody who calls me a Mall Ninja . . . yeah you're probably right! The key difference in my mind is that I'm not super serious about what I do. But I damn well enjoy doing it. I like gear overall, and while I can apply things like "design philosophy" to the out-fit/kit-pack/gun-build,I'm not married to the idea of practicality.

The thing is, its the same kind of kit gathering as the gun:

When people ask me "Why on earth do you have a $3000 assault rifle?" the only good answer I have is "I wanted it, and I could get it, and I like it." Could I do everything that I do with the Tavor using a savage bolt gun? Yeah kindof, but it wouldn't be as much fun.

Could I do everything I do with the Tavor while wearing jeans and a t-shirt? Yeah, but it wouldn't be half as much fun.

As far as the eastern provinces go: I am sorry for your loss. If I couldn't have a firearm in my tent, I wouldn't camp. Straight up. The bear defense thing is done to death, but the fact of the matter is I'm often out there on my own for a few days. So you bet your ass I want a gun (or two) travelling with me.

There must be exemptions in there. Who could call you a poacher with a .22 lever action?

Is ontario still free to carry non-restricted? I mean, they've got enough bush in the northern half of the province!
