For what it's worth, I've been using various scopes on my mid to high power, springer air rifles, usually inexpensive or mid-priced scopes. They are a Diana 45, the original high powered .177 rifle, HW97Ks in .177 and .22. They have all survived thousands of shots. The scopes were not specifically rated for springer air rifles. The feature they all had in common, is a large spring you can see from the objective (front) lens.
Look into the front lens and the spring is there or not.
So I think the spring is there to absorb the double recoil shock.
