2 am in the morning. this is gonna be short and straight forward .
i picked up this Brazil made 1911 stainless GI couple weeks ago. brand new gun and it came with a newbie scratch below the slide release, im like ok, it could be a display model. people might have toyed with it . i racked the slide back, and i see brass mark in the chamber. well ok, maybe it's been test fired from the factory. i striped the gun. ran an oiled cloth thru the barrel and the cloth came out black. at that point it accrues to me that my brand new gun might not be brand new. but guns are meant to be used. so all the scratches here and there, and the fact that the gun was shipped to me used and dirty didnt bother me too much.
now the fun part. i took my 1911 to the range along with 150 rounds of reload led rounds and 50 factory FMJ. the 5th round of the first clip had a jam. i thought maybe the gun just need a little brake in period. 2nd clip , one jam, 3rd clip, jammed again and i stopped tracking after that. i've had about 15-20 jams with those led bullets that's about 1 in 10 shots were jams. they were all failure to ejects. the gun feeds beautifully , but the shells just werent flying out of the port. i first thought it was my grip but i rule that out after i review my own shooting videos, my grip is firm and i've never had any jamming issues with any other guns (except my M213 , it only had one firing mode = Jamomatic). later that day i had a feeling that the gun might once had been returned because of this issue which explains the brass marks and a dirty barrel, AND a ####ing newbie scratch .
so, i took it to a gun smith today, and he discovered that the extractor is 2mm too long. he told me that it should never had left the factory like that. the extractor was also bent because the bodies of the shells were beating on it shot after shot. now i have to pay 80 for fitting in a new extractor.it's almost 1/10th of the price of this gun. moral of the story. buy an american brand american made 1911, or a Norc 1911- low expectations out of the box , you dont feel as bad if it fails
