Springfield Armory XD Tactical

Hey guys just pre-ordered my conversion kit to bring my 40 down to 9, can't wait to see how it works... Gee overtime is a great thing,

I like the XD but have been advised of some issues with the guns durability. I was advised by a Las Vegas Metro PD Firearms Instructor that the Springfield XD has been removed from their "Approved list of Firearms" that they allow members to purchase for duty use. One recruit class had 4 XD's break in one day at the range. To Springfield's credit he advised that customer service is number 1 and the Company fixes them fast and at no cost.

Now I know of people out there that have 10K or more through their XD guns and love them. What I was told (and I hear it over and over from other Firearms instructors across North America) is that you can depend on three pistols; SIG, Glock and HK (not necessarly in that order). Not to say that other guns are bad, it's just that over the long run most other makes try to stand up as well as these three as they are the modern bench mark (I have no intention of insulting 1911 owners).

One of the latest greatest tests was the US Dept. of Homeland Security's. 19 different Companys submitted guns and only two Companys weapons were able to finish the testing with out breaking or going down without a quick fix or part change. SIG and HK (they were awarded the contract jointly).

Before the XD lovers assault me I like to say that I realy like the XD, it points and feels better than a Glock for me.

Rich, If you don't mind me asking. Can you describe the malfunction of the XD during the recruit training? I am getting an XD 40 for Christmas and would like to know of possible problems. Your input is greatly appreciated.

I'd go to www.xdtalk.com and ask about malfunctions. The XD is a relatively inexpensive and very reliable gun. Don't second guess yourself. If you need reassurance, go to www.xdtalk.com. They will put your mind at ease.

Thanks krausb, nope, ain't second guessing myself and don't need reassurance. It's a major purchase and I researched it quite a bit. Just a little curious is all. Rich stated that 4 broke in 1 day of training. I just want to know why. Poor maintenance, factory fault or did the rookies throw it at the targets they missed:eek:

I have the 9mm and 357 Sig conversions on the way as well. So, as you might say, I am sold. Let the good times go bang, bang:D

I'd love to hear something bad on these pistols, other than the early finish
wearing off. I'm at the 3k mark, and can count 3 stovepipes, and little
else. I've also been accused of having full auto from time to time ;)
I usually research the hell out of my bigger purchases, and couldn't be
happier with the xd40. Although conversion barrells are very hard to
come by. Where are you guy's getting them? Pistol Gear is out of stock.
Hopefully in the new year they'll have a 45GAP conversion. Since 45ACP
won't fit on our little frame :(

Well she came this AM. And true to my word I unwrapped it, saw the black case but didn't open it, put a lock on the case and placed it in my safe. Turned the key, spun the dial. Walked out of the room closed the door and threw the dead bolt. Five minutes later I went back into my room, and I have been sitting here staring at the freakin safe for 2 hours. I don't think I have the will power to last until Sunday morning:confused:

Here's hoping, ah the hell with it. One little peek won't hurt.:D

You'd better take a look. You'll want to make sure there's no shipping damage. ;)

Of course krausb you were absolutely right. I should have thought of shipping damage right off the bat:redface: So I took a look and thank god found no obvious damage:) But then I started thinking (sometimes I do too much of that), what if there are parts missing? Well it field stripped so easily I thought for sure there was something missing. But nope, everything was there. So I put her back together, locked her up and am going to write Santa a letter tonight telling him not to stop at pimpim's place:D She's a beaut all right! Fits my paw like a glove.

Just for the hell of it I just traced the outline of my XD40 and MkIII Hi-power frames... by putting tracing over the other and holding them up to the light I found what I suspected. The grip angle, size, and profile are as near to identical as can be seen in this method of checking them. I think that the XD feels and points so good because the grip is an ergonomic copy of the P-35 Browning Hi-power. What say you all?

The first thing that I compared my XD40 to 3 years ago when I first got it was to both my P220 and my 1911. The XD's grip angle is IDENTICAL to the P220. The 1911's grip angle is slightly "wider" than the XD's.
There is no doubt that the Croatian designers didn't reinvent the wheel...;)

The first thing I said, as soon as I picked it up , was that it feels exactly like a Hipower. I love my HP. Guess I should buy an XD ;) .
