Tax rebate coming and I'm thinking about getting the SA M1A.

Any quality concerns from current owners or reason why I should hold off?

Won't be a safe queen.

Not into tinkering, upgrading or stock swapping like with a Norc.

I love my SA NM M1A, over 1K shots tru it, not a malfuction and accuracy wise 1.5 MOA is the norm with Hirtenberger ammo, they are well built rifle.

They are fine out of the box, but depending on the model, there may be tweaks necessary to achieve full accuracy potential.

Some of their current parts are lesser quality than usgi, but they have an unbeatable transferrable lifetime warranty.

I think the LRB and Bula guns are better made, but their post-purchase support is almost non existent.

I'd not hesitate to buy from Sai if I wanted an out of the box runner.

Have yet to handle and shoot a Bula, but I have handled and shot an LRB and a SAI NM M1A (mine), and I could not see any noticeable difference between the 2. Both very nicely finished and smooth to operate. NM M1A was more accurate, but the LRB was just a standard one not the M25. Forge/cast? Both are machine finished so well that I would not know that if I had no background info about how the receiver was made. Someone posted an LRB receiver they purchased and it had some minor machining errors/flaws.

My SA SOCOM16 has been flawless. Picked it up when our CDN $$ was still strong.
It never fails to put a smile on my face at the range (or just fondling it at home:)).....

I read that some norincos forged receivers were 'better' than recent SA cast ones... I have no clue as to how much this is true, or affects quality/precision.

Just got an M1A :) ...still not here yet, but I know that the first thing I'm getting rid of is that composite black stock. I'm looking for a nice M14 wood one to replace it with.

I LOVe the socom look, but at 16" and restricted, I won't get one. I might shorten the 22" barrel on my M1A to 470mm though, and change the flash hider for an actual compensator.

I do wish someone would import more Bula forge guns, they were really nice. Dimensionally many consider them superior to the LRB.

The Fulton guns are also pretty nice, they make arguably a nicer cast M14 than Springfield, but are pricier. @####h brings them in on demand.

I'd say first step is finding a 470+mm barrel.. welding stuff on the end doesn't do anything here, unlike the US.

This.

I meant ppl grow tired irlf range toys and the 18.5 version of the socom can be created easily from the 16 version if you buy the right barrel.
