I purchased a Scuires Bingham 16R few days ago. So i decided to strip the black paint, modify the stock a little, and stain it. After everything was done, i was surprised to see that it wasn't that weird any more.. :) :) look for your self :

this is how it was..

What do you guys think.. ?

Very nice, reminds me of the redo I did last month on a full stock m1600 that my brother in law owns, I may have to post a pic of it here too :D

That looks surprisingly good. No, great. And I don't mean surprisingly as a backhanded insult. I am familiar with the model and never would have thought to take one down to natural wood. Good work.

I have the full stock version. For some reason I passed the sliding stock by in favor of the full. Probably shouldn't have although I do love mine.

Can anyone tell me..... I bought mine in 1988 or so and I am remembering this was one of the first military looking "copies" I had seen in .22. Am I right? Or were there others before these?

Canadian tire sold Dimitri's rifle and the AK variant which I guess was prohibed.

This is one I did.

Before ... totally covered with hockey tape. Took it all off, removed all the adhesive and stripped the 3 layers of paint that was on it.

After ... I put on a new pistol grip from Hogue, the original had a big crack in it.

I once had a red dot mounted on mine on top of the handle and I liked it. Made for an extremely confortable shooting position too. Had to make a wedge to level the red dot on the handle. I since lost both dot and wedge. A freind gave me another red dot and it looks like the Mossberg Tactical has the same wedge piece I need. I haven't called them for one yet. Shoud get on that.

That looks great too. What a different appearance afterward.

Was the hogue grip specific to that model or was it intended for something else?

Any reason for the hockey tape? :)

The Hogue grip was meant for a regular AR, I had to remove some material inside the grip to get it to fit on the mounting wedge.

As for the hockey tape .. I have no idea why he (bro-in-law) did it, I guess he thought it looked cool ... :D

Still shoots straight and looks better than it did before, 15rd mag and never jams .. just wish I/He had more.

Thanks guys... I really didn't expect to see nice wood under all that black...
And $30 per mag would sure be cool, considering that only one mag came with the rifle.
It is one great rifle.. For that price. :)

Did you guys find that it would be difficult to extract sometimes after
20-30 rounds?

Nope. All .22 seems to have the odd fail to feed or eject, but I would say (mine at least) is fewer than any other .22's I own. To the point where I say it is flawless.

I forget if I said it above but I've said it in other threads, estimate over 15 thousand rounds through mine and only cleaned once that I can remember other than a brush across the bolt once in a while. And the faster you shoot the more fun the gun has. Wouldn't part with mine. Always draws a little attention at the range too. I guess because there's not that many around.

Yep, I have the same model as Dmitri's and could use more magazines but they're like $50-$60 each before shipping from Quebec. If there's interest perhaps we could use some buying power in #'s to get the price down. At say $30 I'd buy 4.

Where in Quebec sells them? My bro-in-law has been asking me if I know where to get extras.

What kind of red dot did you use? Will this handle fit an AR handle type mount? I really don't want to remove the handle, and the red dot idea sounds very good, but wouldn't it be too high? Handle+mount+optic...
