SR comp with MR1

For the cost of some of those NR black rifles, you can get a Norinco M4 for SR and an M700 SPS or Savage boltgun to use for varmint hunting. Both will be better suited to their respective application. Third place at the last match was taken with a Norc M4, they shoot.

When I did the first day of the Service Rifle Clinic, the guy beside me had a Norc M4 and an Elcan Spectre 4x.

His shooting was awesome.

Spring for the Norc. Spend the rest on ammo.

Damnit, kombayotch is soooo right once again.....

Sucks to be an MR1 dealer though when you've got logic like this floating around....

It has more to do with the superior coaching and comprehensive training program provided by his organization, and most importantly, dedicated and persistent hardwork by the individual.

I got beat by a guy with a NORC!!!!!! Oh wait, I know who that guy is....he usually does beat me. Proof positive that its the shooter, not the gear. ;)

Now maybe I should pull out my Norc for the next match.....hmmmmm. :)

Before we lean too far to one side, if it were ALL skill and not gear related,
You guys would have said that an MR1 setup would be fine. But clearly, gear
can be advantageous or hindering. So a inexpensive norc m4 is superior to a benelli mr1?

For the cost of that rifle, you can get the Norico with a good optic and you have a rifle that you can easily get parts for. Well it may not be superior in quality, that definitely is an advantage. I've never been to a match where at least one rifle didn't have some kind of problem. And every brand has problems...

If someone already has something they can shoot at home, then I will always tell them to bring that and try to match with it. But if they are buying something new, I will always recommend an AR-15.

Matches aren't a day of plinking at the range. There are more costs involved; match fees, hotels, further travel, web gear, etc... It hurts to spend that money and then not get to shoot the match due to a rifle problem. If your rifle goes down, you want to be able to deal with it. With an AR, you can keep a set of spare parts with you and the tools needed to fix all but the most severe stuff. And if you don't have something, there is a good chance that someone there will and will help you out.

And your getting that with a cheaper rifle (even with a higher end AR).

Anyone using a mini 14 for SR? Can they be tuned to be accurate enough at 400 or 500m? I like my duty diemaco c8, but I am also sick of carrying that thing, and don't want to be shooting a replica on my days off. Call it an aversion. There has got to be an NR that will work and provide me with some variety.
Anyone competing with an M14 with a modular stock set up? Like a US DMR rifle?

I use a Norinco M14. Trust me I look with envy at the AR15 folks. Smaller lighter rifle. Way lighter ammo and mags. For me and the M14, the rifle with scope is around 11 pounds. 200 rounds and 10 mags around 17 pounds. More recoil to recover from. You get the picture.

Wouldn't the Mini 14 be a step in the LIGHT direction then? Did you see what I did there?
I once had a friend fire 20 rounds from a Mini 14 all through the same hole at 50 yrds. When we checked it, there was only one hole. (scratches head) And he was the worst shooter that I have ever seen. True story.

I assume you mean for CQB?

Yes, that will all work. You can just keep your first rifle and pistol mags in a pocket as you will load those at the start of a stage anyway.

You will need to carry 4 rifle mags and one pistol mag on your person.

No I am talking about SR
