SR22 Rifle Questions

I actually don't remember seeing DocBurN's build but I went searching and found this:
I am guessing that if he used an 8" barrel and a 7" hand guard, my idea of using an 8" barrel with the stock 9" handguard will not work :(

Also, I think he has the longer ARF stock than the one I used. It will help keep your OAL > 26" when going with a shorter bbl.

How is the accuracy with the Dlask 8"?

Accuracy has little to do with barrel length, as its velocity that determines accuracy(at range) not barrel length. That being said, .22 rimfire ammunition is generates the most amount of energy/velocity in a 16.25" barrel. Nearly 90% of that velocity can be obtained in a barrel as short as 6 inches. An 8 inch barrel will net you near identical velocities as those from a 16" or 18.5" barrel.

I was mainly asking because I have a 12.5" bentz chamber Dlask barrel on my DAR22, but I believe the 8" is a sport chamber, so I think there could be a significant difference in accuracy. My DAR22 can easily shoot 3 round groups that are one ragged hole at 50 yards, I am not sure what kind of accuracy people are getting with sport chamber Dlask barrels.

bowzy;
That is a very nice rifle. The 12.5" barrel looks great - is it a bentz or sport chamber? Also what hand guard is that?

Dlask .920 stepped to .850 12.5" xtreme barrel rechambered to sporter by dlask. I shoot lots of cci.
It's a dlask short quad hand guard, without the side rails and an iron eagle combat brush guard.

Very interesting thread.
Just pick up my SR22 today am already can't wait to order the Hogue Overmolded forend.
I was trying to remove the the factory HG but nothing happen no matter how hard I try to unscrew it.
Can someone get me an idea how to do it? I just don't want to spend a lot of money on tool which I don't have another AR to work.

Put the chassis front piece in a vice. If your not worried about keeping the factory fore end, use a pair of channel locks and twist it off. The factory uses a whole tube of locktite on it and practically cements it on. Wrap with an old leather belt if you want to maintain the finish on the hg.

Ive been through several SR22 builds and the HG was always a pain to get off.

Id recommend the Dlask Short HG myself. ;)

Thanks for the tips. Do you think it helps if I apply some heat on the thread area?
I am trying to save the factory handguard if I can. The one from Dlask looks awesome. But I am trying to keep the forend as clean as possible. Just make it looks like a Sterling SMG.
Now, I need to find the end cap for it.

The loctite is so freaking dead on the thread even I already apply the heat in that area. I don't think it can be done without the vice to firmly hold down the forend adapter. Or I might need the new forend adapter to finish the job. As you say it is the painful part of the modification.

On both of my builds, I wrecked the finish on both HG's taking it off. I wasn't worried about keeping them or reselling at the time. I vice is best if you got one, just protect the fore end adapter with card board when you clamp it down. Once in, if you don't have channel locks, slip a large screw driver through the holes in the HG and twist. You can slip something over the shank to protect the finish.

The fore end caps you can order from Iron Eagle Tactical. I got my Nordic parts from them, great service to Canada.

But be aware that your new handguard may not be tapped to take the end cap screws.

Good advice. Thanks.
I might not keeping the factory HG if it come down to it. Try to see if any of my friends has vice that I can go to. Or I go to my mechanic to get it done.
Thanks for you help.
Do you mine to show off some of your build?

That's true.
How is the fit and finish of the Nordic foreend with end caps combo? Are they suppose to fit perfectly?
I love the Hogue Overmolded foreend from Brownells. Just love the non slip rubber on the foreend and clean looks. I'm also look into the stock option such AR15 ARFX or ACE ......etc.

You guys has build the awesome SR22 and they are beautiful.

Great share.

Its great timing to see a thread about this. I just picked up an SR22 yesterday as my first Non-Restricted purchase. Where is the best place to buy accessories and parts for it? Specifically I am looking for rails that will mount to the shroud around the barrel.
