Stag 10 build and range review

Here are some new results with my reloads.
Today, I was able to test Lapua Scenar 167 OTM and Lapua Scenar 185 OTM with varget, Federal Lake City brass and federal 210 primer. I was shooting at 100y,each sticker is 1 inch, the temperature was really cold (-15C) so all my groups were shot pretty quicky (I was shooting about 20 rounds at a time, 5 rounds group in less than 1 min). After that, the mirage from the heat was too important and the target was all blurred for 5-10 min.

Here are the results!
I think I have something pretty good with the Lapua 185, mostly between 39,5 to 41 gr (39,5 being the best). The Lapua 167 wasn't as good except for 42gr. In both case, the groups were getting bigger with more powder charge. I have a BSF 1:10 20 inches barrel

Here is the Lapua Scenar 185 OTM

Built my 5th Stag 10. 260 Rem

I bought the TNA reaction rod though the more research I’ve been doing I’m finding more and more people are suggesting not to use the reaction rods to attach the barrel and that it’s only for working on muzzle devices like flash hiders. Apparently it can overtighten the extension or loosen it and cause issues with the barrel. Are these legitimate concerns? I’ve been having a heck of a time finding any reputable vise block in Canada for the stag 10’s... or is there a barrel vise that won’t scratch up or damage the barrel? I picked up an MRA barrel and want to do this right.

I don’t believe these are legitimate concerns. I’ve done the math.

I’ve built 5 of them and haven’t had a problem. Keep the torque below 80 ft lbs, I’ve only needed 45 ft lbs ever.

Brass chips?

Need your help folks. I'm new to the AR scene and need some guidance. Got my Stag10 308 as a complete rifle. I gave it a once over to make sure everything was nice and tight from the dealer. Noticed the ejector was stiffer than heck and couldnt be remove from the bolt to inspect. Emailed dealer and they promptly replied that it shouldnt be an issue - normal. Off to the range to break in. Shooting Remington UMC 150 and Federal Lake 149 for the break in. Anyway ... noticed a bunch of small brass chips in the mag. What ??!!

On closer inspection, looks like ejector is taking chunks out of the case rim, there are also two mean gouges in the neck/shoulder and the primers are oddly marked. I assume defect/issues. Any ideas?

In some ways you have it backwards, the torque from the bbl nut is being directly applied to the extention and not the bbl itself as it would be when installing a flash hider.

Barrel extension are torque to 150 Ft/lb if I remember correctly. So whoever told you that is out to lunch since barrel nuts for handguards these day are around 50lbs depending on manufacturer.

At the risk of sounding stupid, what proprietary parts are required for a Stag 10 build? Is it only the upper and lower? I can't seem to find a clear answer.

The propriety parts are included in a receiver set. The take down, pivot and detent pins are proprietary. The only thing you have to watch for is when you buy handguard that you get a DPMS high handguard.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Also installed my new barrel on my lightweight 308 with a titanium BCG. If anyone uses a light weight BCG, make sure you use an adjustable gas block. All of my AR-10s use an adjustable gas block set at about 80% open, the lightweight BCG's gas block is only about 20% open.

Whose gas block adjustable did you go with? On a side note I picked up a Triggertech Adaptable that I dying to try out.

I use Superlative on all my builds. I did just order an SLR because I couldn't find an adjustable Superlative .936" gas block. You will have to let us know how it works for you!
