Stag 10 build and range review

The Hipertouch competition. I did buy an EDT DMR, I haven’t installed it yet.

I have the hiperfire DMR trigger in my Stag 10; it had some issues early on with it failing to reset (when I let off the trigger gently) and had to be pushed forward manually. I had the lower with me on the couch watching a movie and just manually cocked and dry fired the trigger group repeatedly until it broke in, no more issues.

I took some Go Pro Footage of the last time I had it out, I tried a course of fire to see if I could shoot it from various ranges and shooting positions.

What handguard is it in this picture?

What handguard is this?

I just ordered a Stag 10 LEV2. I’ll be using it for hunting and plinking. I don’t plan on mounting any BUIS. VGs or anything else on the handguard except the occasional bipod. I like this tube design and I don’t care for a super long hand-guard. My AR handguard is 12” and is plenty long. Anyone have suggestions that would work for what I’m thinking?

I just completed this one, man was the barrel nut hard to torque! The supplied two-piece wrench immediately stripped its own teeth when I started to put some pressure on it to line up the ports for the gas tube :jerkit:. I had to finish the job with a strapwrench

This one!

Looks like a Hogue.
Shortest you want is 12"3/8 to cover the gas tube but expose the gas block. A rare 13"1/2 or 14" would also cover the gas block. I agree with you the common 15" are very long.

Brigand arms carbon handgard are the lightest.

PRi Delta triangular handgard have a classic military look.

A few questions:

1) Anyone know if the Stag 10 LEV2 buffer tube is carbine or milspec size? As in, should I get a Magpul CTR milspec or commercial stock?

2) Is the buffer tube / top rail relationship the same as an AR15? As in, will my red dot / BUIS cheek weld remain the same on the Stag 10?

3) Anything to watch out for when getting pistol grips? I like the MOE-K.

4) Will any trigger guard work?

1: Milspec
2: Yes.
3: No special requirement.
4: Yes.

I don’t see anything for AR10 on the Hogue website.

I don't like their AR furnitures so I didn't pay attention to what they offer for the AR10. What I know is that they operate their website like a webstore more than like a manufacturer. When an item is out of stock it can disappear for months. So to figure if an item exist you should try google and Hogue dealers.

One question, can I use AR15 bolt catch on Stag10 lower receiver? The stock one is not that friendly to lefty, and I have a spare Strike Industries AR15 enhanced bolt catch sitting around.

I did search the forum, but had different answers. Thanks ahead.

You could always swap it in, it will only take a small Allen screw, but the AR-15 bolt catch are narrower.

Well my Stag 10 LEV2 has arrived.

PROS:

Excellent build quality
Surprisingly light weight
Surprisingly good factory trigger
NR

CONS:

Pretty basic out of the box. To take the LEV2 and get it to where I’d like it will take some $$$. Should I have gotten the Enhanced version? Meh. It is definitely worth it value wise just in the upgraded components (grip, stock, muzzle brake) but the only part I actually wanted was the VG6 muzzle brake.

Here is what you get out of the box:

Like I said, fit and finish is top notch ... perfect actually.

What’s next?

1) Optics since I have no spare iron sights and will want to hunt / plink with it. I had a Bushnell SMRS and an ADM mount in the safe and they should serve me well on the Stag 10. The only downside is that they are noticeably hefty. I’m fit so I don’t care too much about the weight but it definitely goes from “surprisingly light” to heavy.
2) Grip. I’ve got an MOE-K2 on the way.
3) Stock. I’ve got a STR on the way and a rubber butt pad as well. No slipping on clothes and hopefully will take the edge off any recoil. The only other semi in .308 that I’ve fired was a Browning BAR Hog Stalker. The recoil wasn’t bad but but it did have a nice squishy stock. The stock that came with the base Stag 10 is just a piece of plastic.
4) Rails / QD attachments. Again, the base Stag is very basic. I’d like to have at least one rail section for a bipod for bench work and a QD mount for a sling. The QD mount is on the way but polymer picatinny rails seem to be sold out everywhere.
5) Muzzle brake. I wish this had come with the VG6. I’ll do some research to see what folks recommend for some recoil reduction and compensation (I will take it off for hunting). Please let me know what you suggest. I was tempted to get the VG6 Gamma in the .300BLK because it’s the only one I could find in stock but then realized it has 2 ports while the 7.62x51 version is 3 ports.
6) Charging handle. I’m use to doing the palm swipe and that’s just not possible with a basic charging handle. I’ve got a Strike Industries one on the way. I’m not sure why all the range of the Radian Raptor handles. Personally I think it’ll just get caught on clothes etc.
7) Trigger? Nope. So far the stock trigger seems very acceptable. Maybe I’ll change my mind down the road.
8) Handguard? Nope. I had my mind set on a tubular hand guard but the stock one is much nicer than I thought. Maybe I’ll change my mind down the road.

Let the build begin!

What are folks using and liking for a muzzle brake / compensator / flash hider? I’ve got a Heathen on my PRS gun which I quite like. I had a Cadex brake on my Cadex and it was VERY effective but I don’t want anything that big on the end of my Stag.

I went with an AAC brakeout 2.0. With my setup (20" barrel 308, SLR adjustable gas block) it shoots really nicely. Not too loud and shoots smoothly.
