Hello Colt Fans!

This little revolver is marked "H.E.P. Co. 77" at the base of the grip. You can see "INS" marked at the base of the grip. I don't think that's our friends at US-INS. I believe this is Hong Kong (Hongkong) Empire Police. Serial 811###, came to me wearing Colt medalion Pachmayr presentation grips that look new and are probably not original to the gun. It is also very comfortable in the full-length wood Detective Special grips of another Royal Hong Kong Police revolver I got at the same time.

There's a bit of corrosion, I can't imagine what did that. It shoots well, locks up, etc.

Proofhouse dot com is no immediate help, I couldn't find it as an Agent with that serial number. Detective Specials from '62 were in that range.

Cool stainless 12(6) Colt. My son loves it, but of course he can't have it anyway, he'll get a 12(7) one in Nickel if he behaves. Meanwhile, time to make someone else happy.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions or insights, thank you!

Unless I'm mistaken the finish on your Agent is nickle plated, not stainless steel. To my knowledge Colt never produced this gun in stainless steel. Yours looks to be a nice example. It would be worth considerably more in the USA than in Canada. Because it is a 12(6) gun I'll give you a ballpark figure of $400.00, perhaps a bit more if you found someone who just had to have it.

That's right!

Nope, really, stainless! I know Colt says they didn't, but here's one. This isn't nickel, it polishes, etc. It's Stainless, not just blue steel with the finish brushed off either. All solid stainless (except probably the springs...). That's why my question. It's not just another Nickel Colt.

Thanks PRProulx, I posted this picture and my question at coltforum dot com and am enjoying the abuse. Let me say again how wonderful it is to have CGN, where the abuse is mostly friendly.

So far I have learned FOR SURE that there were no stainless Colt Agents (despite the obvious, this is a stainless Colt Agent), that this gun is nickel and I'm clearly a moron for not knowing the difference, and that I can look forward to learning some more yet from the extremely clever people on the other forum. Wow.

Nope, this is a stainless steel gun, and the stainless steel barrel says "AGENT". Even stupid me can read that, and my stupid metallurgical engineer brother said something about 400 series Martensitic something or other.

Well, so far posted on the other forum, aside from the bits where I'm stupid, which we all knew already anyway, I have an offer to pay for the Colt Factory Letter and $2000 if it's real! They're safe to make offers like that since they know this gun probably can't go back there. Still entertaining, though. If you don't mind being called stupid, that is.

My first post there. I wonder how much fun the second one will be?

Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know what the Colt Historians think, if the factory letter isn't too expensive.

not to burst your bubble, but being hk,and their penchant for producing "anything"- remember hong kong suits?- best tailors in the world- if it is an actual colt, with that finish, or if it is stainless, it would have belonged to a high mucky-muck level cop if issued- detectives got 2 inch and the "average" cop got a 4-but that may apply to the rhkc only- there's probably a couple of hundred different agencies as well
