Hi guys

Just looking around for some prices and some considerations!
Im in the process of making my DIY rotary tumbler.
I know the SS pins are available in the states.
somebody is aware of an Canadian retailer who sells them as well??
Would like to have them magnetically!

looking for 10lbs to 15lbs = 5kg - 7kg of SS pins
trying to make double the capacity of the model B tumbler

my thanks in advance

I just ordered 20lbs from pelletsLLC, waiting on the shipment now to see if it gets hit with a COD duty. If not you would be looking at about $150, you could probably sell 5-10 lbs at cost in EE or just build your tumbler even bigger :)

That would be a way to big tumbler for me:)

Twice the size of the model B is good enough for now.
Might even do 2 drums of 15lbs instead of 1 of 30lbs.
Need to do some reading on that still though.
Bigger doesn't mean better cleaning.

Could use some input on that!!??

I agree that bigger doesn't mean cleaner but bigger does mean more clean brass per load. Two pounds of brass on a 15 pound tumbler is not really that much. It's nice to have the option to do more when needed.

Two pounds of 9mm Lugar = 240 pieces
Two pounds of 45 ACP = 160 pieces

I have a 40 pound tumbler and it's nice to be able to do 12 pounds of 9mm Lugar.

You use Stainless Steel pins??

I've always wondered if some other media would work besides pins

Maybe SS scraps from a CNC mill call local places maybe you can buy that at dirt cheap and try it out

If it would be small and thin enough to go to the flash hole, then yes.
Maybe worth trying.
Will look for facilities who use aluminum here in central Alberta.

If you have a 40lb tumbler, how much stainless steel media you have in the barrel then?

Would like to know the ratio that you use to clean the brass???

For the model B tumbler I found they use
15 lb capacity
5 lb ss media
8lb water
2lb brass

The "formula" for the 40lb tumbler is as follows:
12 lb SS media
Fill tub until 60-70% full of brass (2,100 pieces of mixed pistol brass)
Fill with water until 1-2" from top
1 teaspoon of LemiShine
4-5 tablespoons of Dawn dishwasher soap

I'm going down to Forida tomorrow for a week to pickup a boat with a friend. When I get back I'll do a full load of 9mm and count the number of pieces cleaned. I'll post my results here.

Enjoy your time in the warm south east. Look forward to the results.

Last question? Could you also in a large capacity drum instead of maximal filling with brass only clean like 500 a 700 brass???
Hopefully due to te proportion of media and brass te brass still comes out clean.
I do understand you would maybe use a little less lemishine and dawn dishwasher soup.

Thanks

Doing smaller batches is never a problem, you just want to avoid overloading the system. With smaller batches I expect the times to be shorter due to the higher pins to brass ratio. Fewer chemicals would also be needed.

When I do any pistol brass I use a 1 gallon bucket as my measuring cup.
I run that 1 gallon bucket full of brass,a good squirt of Dawn and the Lemmishine. Fill the drun 3/4 from the top with straight hot water.Tumble for 4 hour's and their all done.

Just youtube for 'redneck brass tumbler' and you'll see some examples.

Hey guys, with the model B thumbler how many rounds of 9mm can you do at once for optimal cleaning. If you have a recipe that would be even better. Thanks.

The Thumler's Model B Tumbler can clean 2 pounds of brass cases which is 230 pieces of 9mm brass.

A popular recipe for this tumbler is:
- 5 lbs. of SS media
- 1 gallon of cold water (about an inch from top of the tumbler)
- 2 lbs. of brass
- 1 to 2 tbs of Dawn dishwater soap (if no soap bubbles in water after tumble you need more soap)
- 1/4 tsp. of LemiShine
- Tumble 3-4 hours
- Rinse brass with warm water
- Dump brass onto a towel and let dry
- Store your SS media either wet or dry in the drum.

Canadian Tire sells the LemiShine for $4.00.
