Starting a modest WWII collection

2 New Additions and 1 Deletion

I have recently added the least expensive item to my WWII collection ($6 US shipped):

I am not really a stamp collector, but I couldn't resist these when I saw them on eBay

I have also very recently purchased this Inglis with decal, which is great, but I did have to part with my refinished US&S M1911A1 in order to afford it. I hope one day to add an original finish US&S to the collection:

My new plan regarding the pistols in my collection, is to just collect Inglis and M1911A1 WWII pistols and to slowly sell off my remaining WWII pistols as new items are added.

Looks like the collection is moving along nicely! Good looking Remington Rand.

Always tough to part with something, but sometimes the new additions mean selling an item or two -- it would be sweet to have endless resources and just keep/buy all of them!

In a way my fairly new strategy of selling items to fund new acquisitions is helping me define my interests and prioritize.
 
Its a good way of acquiring new pieces to your collection, my problem is I have a hard time parting with them, but I'm working on it.
 
Actually no, I believe the barrel is incorrect it is marked: "Colt 45 Auto P"

My research indicates that this would be a correct barrel for an earlier RR, but this serial number range should be HS P, would you agree Steve?
 
During early production at Remington Rand there was a shortage of High Standard barrels as production was just ramping up.

Some early type I and type II slide address du-lite Remington Rands were assembled with Colt barrels. These barrels were marked with the Colt large 'G' 'P' and 'COLT 45 AUTO'.

Unfortunately, by the type III slide address and parkerized finish they would all be assembled with HS P barrels. Does your current barrel have any other markings?

This early production 1942 Remington Rand with type I 'NEW YORK' slide address has many non-standard parts sourced for early production including a Colt barrel:

I have an early du-lite type II with Colt barrel as well. But never heard of an original parkerized type III RR with Colt barrel.

No other markings that I can see. I think I will look for an HS P barrel to swap out. I think they are fairly plentiful, I have seen them for sale from time to time.

What is your opinion of the slide stop lever and safety? They appear to be a different finish than the slide and frame. They appear to be either blued or parkerized almost black in colour. I understand this is normal for some 1911s, but the safety especially looks odd with lots of machine marks.
