Steel Challenge at abby rod and gun UPDATE: We have legit steel!

Actual Match Dates

I would like to know when you will have actual match dates set.
As for PoCo and Mission dates as Follow:

PoCo Steel----Feb 19
PoCo Steel---March 18
Mission Steel--April 21
Mission Steel--May 12
Mission Steel--June 16

Basically Mission is running there matches on the 3rd Saturday of the month.

I hear TMSA will be starting a Steel Match as well. I would like to shoot all of them as long as they do not conflict with the IPSCBC shoots and other Steel Matches.

Thank You

I believe the idea is for Abby to buy the actual sanctioned steel and start running sanctioned matches this summer maybe.

I think it's great if the clubs can work together on this to avoid match conflicts, there are probably quite a few people who would like to shoot at all three venues.

Here's an idea I'd like to throw out there, as steel is relatively expensive how about all three clubs pooling their resources once a year and putting on a ProAm type championship - 5 to 6 stages with 30-40 targets per stage. Combined we could probably get enough steel together to put on a great match.

Like I said, Abby is going for sanctioned Steel Challenge. Not generic steel matches.

Hey guys, Steel Challenge is the best shooting sport ever! Here's a few things you may or may not know about it.

First, Steel Challenge is a specific match, not just random steel targets on a range. Don't advertise a match as steel challenge unless you have official courses, rules and scoring set up.

Steel Challenge is now owned by USPSA, steelchallenge.com has all info on stages and sanctioning events. I think it's cheap, like a dollar a shooter or something because they want the sport to grow.

Target size and placement is very important. You will want to level targets with a laser or transit.

You don't have to have all 8 stages to have a good match, most club matches they onley set up 5 or 6.

Most SC matches allow multiple entries. For example, I usually shoot rimfire, limited and open. The stages are the same except for rimfire, you do not use a holster.

Its possible to shoot stages and then reset other stages on the same range if it's planned ahead.

Another match idea (if your clubs are close and get along) is to set 4 stages at one club and the other 4 at another.

If there's anything I can help you with, feel free to contact me. I hope to come shoot a few times with you this year.

Best,
ken kupsch

Ken we are working towards the full steel matches with correct targets ect, but steel is expensive so we make do with what we have and do as close to the stages as possible (generally this is the same layout with targets that are to small since we use IPSC stuff)

had a good practice tonight, had the most people out so far with lots of new people and it was a ton of fun with people helping each other out, giving pointers, ect

great turn out last week guys, sadly im out of town this week so no shooting but on the 25th im setting up smoke and hope, so lots of big targets close in. lets see a bunch more people out!
