Sterling Arms International R18 Mk2 - Redux!

I think they’re are a lot of guys still using these types of firearms in the woods, ranges, etc, maybe only going through a few hundred rounds per year. so I don’t personally think the fit/finish is a number one Priority. Well, for close to $3000 maybe.
They’re not being run as hard as the comp guys, so breakages should be minimal.

I see the value in the sterling though, if I were into comps , that’s what I would choose.

I thought the the MS/MV was a beautiful rifle , but then again, so was my Stag AR15 .. lol

One was $4600 and the other was $700 , both beuties in in a different way.. lol

FYI, there are a few pics of the Sterling booth and the R18 MK2 they had on display in my TACCOM review, in case you missed it.

I ran 400 rds through one this weekend. It didn’t feed well from my cross mags or my LAR-15 mags (both 10 rd mags). They shoot well, nice recoil impulse and have quality machining. Feeding was 100% reliable from the included Magpul mags. I managed to hit the mag release more than once when reaching for the bolt release on the right hand side as they are directly above each other - frustrating dropping your mag during a reload :). I switched to hitting the bolt release on the L side with my thumb after loading a new mag.

IMO, very nice rifle comparable in fit and finish to other rifles I’m familiar with I.e. XCR, modern varmint, BCM. If it was reliable with all of my mags I’d buy one now.

Thanks for the feedback. You may want to sell the Cross Mags and see if the Gen 2 Cross Mags work any better. Good luck!

OK, I’ve decided I’m going to buy one. I was pretty interested after spending some time with the one I had, but listening to a couple of the YouTube interviews about the planned improvements including Sarah coding in the trigger tech trigger I’m gonna have to purchase one.

Now the wait….

Any suggestions for 10 round mags that are reliable with these rifles?

What did you go with? Struggling myself right now to choose between X95 and R18

I was in a carbine course with multiple R18s, every single one had issues during the course. (there was 5) not a large sample size I know but I thought that was terrible for $2700. There was a X95 as well but it had issues due to operator error.

if it has to be between those two, do yourself a favour and get the x95, the ergos aren't the greatest but as least you won't be fighting FTEs, and FTFs all day.

If you can afford it, definitely get a Bren 2 or a APC. they ran flawlessly.

My R18 has been great so far. Hasn’t had any issues I haven’t caused myself. Mine can be picky about magazines though which will cause failure to fire.

Exactly, those R18 FTF and FTE problems are real. Mine had FTF for AE 223 even after I adjusted the gas system. I sold that POS rifle and moved on.

My siberian was endlessly more reliable than my R18, Siberian had 2 FTF within the first 20 rounds and after that it ran flawlessly for the next 3000 before I sold it to fund my move to a Bren.

That said I love the bren and its very cute and I love it and its not poopy like the R18
