Sterling Arms R9 MK1's Have Arrived! Get Yours Now!

Is this lefty friendly besides the lack of controls as mentioned in Bartok’s review? I’m mainly concerned about the hot gasses I feel when I’m using my SPC9, which prevents me from using a cheek weld. Any lefty owners out there?

I'm a lefty and have shot the R9 a bunch of times both indoors and outdoors. Never noticed any gas in my face.

The safety is typical AR15, which is easily manipulated with the left hand. The two different mag releases are both very easy to use for a lefty. The mag release is same as an AR15.

For the cocking handle, I just roll the rifle over so the handle is pointing up and reach over top with my right hand. Its super easy to do.

The only thing I have difficulty with is locking the bolt open without a mag installed. The receiver is slightly longer than an AR, which puts the bolt hold open a bit further forward, making it a little difficult to reach with my left index finger.

Appreciate the info, I’ll add this to my radar.

I'm a lefty, the only thing that isn't fully ambi is the charging handle. I swapped the safeties, took off the weird mag release and am now using it as just an mp5 paddle style release.
Haven't had any issues

I think you have an SPC9 as well, right? What’s it like comparing the two?

Any chance of getting one with a normal barrel?
Maybe one day they will offer different barrel profiles and custom barrel makers will have barrels available.... but that day seems pretty far off.

The look of the barrel is strange but the concept is sound and in our market fairly unique.

I thought they said can't sell any firearms that don't have an FRT.. sooo doesn't that mean the R9 and Crypto?
After reading your post I went back and reviewed the official changes on the government website.

What I read indicates that the firearms classification system is under review.

I watched the press release and I do remember something about the possibility of all new firearms requiring an FRT. There was nothing about this being retroactive for existing firearms.

The SAI web site has the R9 barrel specs available. You can take that to any barrel maker and have them make a custom barrel if you want to.

It's a simple blowback - so yes as a lefty, you are going to get a bit of gas and potentially debris (unburnt powder) to varying degree from almost nothing to some depending on the ammo you use.
Wear eye pro.
