Ok I have a line on a Stevens 200 in .308. I would like to do as much of the build as possible myself.
Do I need an action wrench or is a barrel vice and nut wrench enough?
I plan on purchasing a new stock, barrel, recoil lug, trigger, base/rings, dies, brass, bullets, etc. but I need to research that a bunch more first.
I don't plan on competing with it necessarily but I would like something that is accurate from 200 - 800 yards shooting benchrest.
The main things I'm not too sure about are the barrel and chamber. I'm thinking 28", stainless steel, 8 twist, 1.25 to 0.92 taper, non fluted, no muzzle break, # grooves? or something like that.
For the chamber I really don't know and I'm open to suggestions. I'm not afraid of neck turning or tight neck chambers. Since I don't have the dies yet I can go in any direction wrt neck, free bore, etc. I'm thinking 107gr VLDs and .115" -.120" freebore. Maybe a .269 chamber for slight cleanup of lapua brass.
Any and all input will be appreciated.
