Steyr ...what's it worth?

It's only worth a couple of hundred... PS: Please send it to me right away. :p

Very purdy for sure, love the full wood stock. One of these days...

Minimum 2K... JP.

IMO that is quite optimistic. If it would be a Luxus model in excellent condition with original Steyr schwenkmontage then maybe $2000. As it sits, he never even told us about the condition, so how can you give such a price? If it is in good shape I would say more like $1500. Could it sell for more? Maybe to the right person, who is hard to find. Could it sit there at that price for a long time and not sell? Possibly. As you know from selling Steyr rifles. ;)

$1000-1500. If this one has a plastic magazine housing/trigger guard, make sure it is not cracked through the front screw hole.

It is that model. And your point is well made - as well inspect the sides of the stock along the magazine well as it is very thin and prone to cracking there as well.

yes .. you may be royally fooked if it is ... I managed to acquire a long action replacement for my model M (mine isnt cracked but the one of the two retaining clips on the integral mag housing had a small repairable crack .. so "just in case") from Steyr in the US BUT I see they no longer advertise these in the spares section ... soooo... I dont know availability today over here and Euro prices can be high.

btw factors to consider: Luxus or not (1899 do you know for certain it is a plastic trigger guard - mag housing - if so it is obviously not a Luxus) and is it a "single set trigger"; extra Mags ; those arent Steyr rings or bases so not huge value .. but handy as the bases can be tough to find. Having the full iron sights (with hood) is NICE BTW! .. none of the Luxus I have seen had the skip line checkering like this one BUT I have seen very few and I am NOT an expert...

A Steyr Classic full wood top condition could sell for 2K up north... The picture is bad, more would help for a precise appraisal, paid almost 3K for my Luxus brand new... JP.

With no disrespect, it may be listed at $2000, but that likely isn't what one would sell for.

Demand will dictate price, very true but peoples like me that are Steyr Mannlicher lovers will surely pay attention to a like BNIB Steyr... JP.

I am inclined to agree. They are nice rifles but seriously let down by the plastic bits. If you've got one - then you know how accurate they can be! I dont know what calibre the pictured rifle is in ... for a carbine I like both extremes: short calibres like the 243/308/358 and big calibres like the 375H&H ... I dont really see the advantage of the intermediates like 270W or 30/06 in a carbine .. just my 2 cents.

(to add - if this was a .308 - at least the mags seem to be available as I am pretty sure they are the same as used in the SSG -- again if it isnt a "Luxus" )

("I dont know what calibre the pictured rifle is in.." edit to add I guess I do know - 270W - I just have a problem reading !)

AP - no, guaranteed it is not a Luxus. It is a regular M Stutzen. I was just saying IF it was a Luxus it may be worth the kind of money posted earlier. Also the mounts look like Beuhler, which are nice but again good luck finding different sized or height rings or shims.

I should also mention that there used to be, or maybe still is, a company in the USA that made metal trigger guard replacements of the SSG which would likely fit the Model L.

Sorry I didn't add more details but I was pressed for time when I posted this. The rifle was offered to me in a trade. It's a .270 and there is a small crack by the mag well. That is the only picture I have of the gun. The gun I had to trade was a TC Encore and I was just wondering if it was a worthwhile trade.

There you go with the crack. Sadly it does happen with that model. Is the crack repairable? If not you will have a heck of a time trying to find a replacement. As for value with a cracked stock...I personally wouldn't bother...but if I had to put a number on it, and the stock was repairable I would say under $1000. They are nice rifles and very accurate, but as others have pointed out they do have some flaws.

AP - (and others) - here is what the magazine and bottom metal looks like on the Luxus (note magazine release is different too):

Well that would be one issue .. the other is the black plastic insert you see in the magazine well that incorporates the trigger guard .. the things to check out are the areas around the screws to make sure there is no cracks also on either side of the magazine well you will see that there are small cut-outs in the plastic housing to retain the magazine .. make sure they are not cracked or missing a piece at the bottom. The stock as already identified is thin and the crack you show is not great news BUT I am certain it could be mended with a thin threaded brass rod "carefully" installed with epoxy (acraglass etc)

If the plastic is good -- I think a trade for an Encore is a great deal! .. and I like Encore's! If the plastic guard/mag well bit is broken or cracked ... make sure you can get a replacement because it could be a royal PITA
