StG 44

How about some ballistic charts and data, etc, for comparing 8mm Kurz (7.92X33) to regular 8mm (7.92X57). Just to keep this thread going.

Part of the original specification for the "new" round was that it was ballisitically comparable to 8x57JS up to 400m. On vacation and I don't have access to my books, but I can can take a peek and see if there are any charts or such when I get home (in two weeks).

I'm curious if any firearm manufacture still makes this Rifle? I think it would be cool for a Manufacturer to make a Semi-auto version avalible to people, I'd definitly buy one. How about everyone else?

A german gunsmith resumed production of MP44 recently, perfect repro, semi auto only.

They were manufactured in East Germany almost up to the 1980's,ammo in 7.92 kurtz was produced there as well.
If one could find who was producing them and strike a VZ58 kind of deal...then we would be in business. :)

Any more info on this? I'm pretty eagerly waiting on this, Im in the layed off boat ATM but when I get my job back I want to know how much ill be in debt! And to know when the Girlfriend is going to kick my ass for spending so much money.

sorry, no mfg, last pieces were assembled in 1945 with the two letters serial numbers starting april. some were used by the Volks Polizei until they received PPSh ( Shpagin) in 1960 then later MPiK ( AKM).
The remaining STGs were stored for a small quantity, got one of them that was surplused after the Berlin Wall fall, but most of them were sent to revolutionary organisation, PLO, Fatah, Erytrea etc .
Ammo was produced until beginning of 70s in DDR

Austria used STG for its border guards too.

Man I find is so amusing how uptight some people get with other peoples taste in firearms. Relax and just be glad their are still people that still like firearms period.

I want MP44.....in 7.62x39...and a 18.5" bbl so I can have another bush gun to scare the libby's with.

And just to rub the salt in, my AR180B has an M4 stock on it, my CZ858 looks more like an AK everyday, and I love them both SOO much more because of it.

I can't believe people are still talking about converting the Stg44 to 7.62x39. It's not taste or economics that is preventing this guys, it's pure physics. The cartridges aren't the same length!

Dosen't nessasarly HAVE to be 7.62x39mm....just something a little more common for people who'd actually like to shoot it.

There's already one in .22LR.

I'm incredulous that people are still talking about a '7.62x39' version. They don't seem to realise that you can only rechamber a rifle in a SMALLER cartridge, rather than a LARGER one. Also they miss the whole point of a reproduction gun.

A 7.62x39 MP44 would have very few parts in common with a 7.92x33 one.

If you were going to rechamber it, 7.62x25 or 9mm would probably make the most sense.

Yeah, 7.62x25 would probably be the one to go with.. But id prefer it in its original round, even if its hard to come by.. Probablly going to get the FG-42 though, unless I get my restricted soon.. Even then I wont have the money to shoot the StG..

REAPER;
The MP-44 family was NOT being produced into the 1980s....
The East German reconditioned thousands of left over guns which in turn were given or sold to various movements across the world, various African nations Egypt, Libya, to name a couple, were the happy recipients as well as a few South American nations....

We kitted thousands of them for the US market over the years. Yugoslavia had captured large numbers as the Germans fled the country.

Ten years ago we even sold surplus WW-11 German ammo....
John

The East Germans did produce large quantities of the ammunition, however the latest headstamps I have seen would be in the 1970s....

OK FOLKS;
Just got back from meetings with the producer, we will have another shipment in Canada within 4-6 weeks....

I am confident we will have that section of our website up with a few days....

We are planning on making 7.92x33 reloadable brass available.

If any questions send me a note at john@marstar.ca
