Stiff

Is there a scope on teh rifle. If so, your base screws might be too long.

Otherwise, you should check the inside of the action where the bolt "slides" along.....might be a nick in the metal. Does the bolt stick at a certain point or is the tightness all thru the full stroke of the bolt thru the action?

you need to be more specific. stiff on opening, closing, moving forward/back, etc.

the savage bolt head is free-floating so it allows for a some play, and should move back/forth quite smoothly. they are normally a bit rough on cocking because of a poor design - this *can* be remedied with an elaborate mod but IMO is not really worth the time unless you really love the rifle, heh.

i swapped my bolt handle for a $20 oversized bolt knob like on their 10FPs which made it easier to slap the bolt around and gave more clearance around the scope.

just sit in front of the TV and cycle the action/dry fire it a few hundred times and it should smooth up.

mazy, you can buy and sell guns on this site, but you will need to get permission to access the exchange forums. You can PM one of the mods listed here

Skullboy, stormbringer, Houligan, Hungry, BCboy, Stevo, cz452shooter, Halger280HVMag

It is sticky the full stroke of the bolt.

Put some JB bore paste on the bolt, and work the action.........................A lot, it will be a long job, but will be worth it in the end. Remember to clean the bejesus out of it when you are done. Les

If it is sticky the whole throw of the bolt, you may need to polish the bolt. Take the bolt out and run your finger on the upside of the interior of the action. See if you can feel the rear mount screws. It might be as simple as that......

Weatherby's with Weaver bases are bad for that sometimes Ive found. Might be the same for your gun.

And yeah, what Gatehouse said. We all hop from one thread to another. Just post once in the correct forum.

check your scope base screws, as well as the forward action screw. One or the other may be protruding through the reciever and touching the bolt head. I found this to be a problem when i switched stocks on my stevens. The new stock was countersunk too far on the front action screw, so my bolt would not close when i re-inserted it because the screw was a couple threads into the action. A quick trim of the screw and all is well.
