You have a 9mm major open gun Walter? If so is it a Stinger or Trubor?

Hmm all I hear are problems with 9mm major. Anybody have any positive reviews?

no i don't. i regularly repair a single stack in Lethbridge for a guy and the one fellow who has Stinger in alberta and shot the provincials with it had nothing but problems.

The 9 majors have a few common problems...and if you can address those, they work great...

Fault 1 - extraction...The 9 mil brass is pretty light so it really flies out. With a conventional scope mount...that can pose a problem (brass hits the mount and ends up back where it doesn't belong. :( Solution...higher or offset scope mount...or slide mounted optic (Docter or JP)

Fault 2 - in addition to the limited powder choices...the tapered case can be a challenge. I was having a very common problem with my ammo. I didn't have enough bell in the case mouth when I was seating the bullet, and the case was shaving off a bit of the jacket that was ending up in the chamber...so the next round would not chamber properly. Simple solution...but it took a while to figure out (and some good advice from Black...his wife was having the same problems)

Fault 3 - Mags. Unless you load really long...you need spacers if you use STI mags. SVI mags are better...but harder to find (and more expensive)

After a very frustrating few months...mine is now working great...no regrets. I also love sitting back and sipping my Vente Cappuccino while all the Super Comp crowd forage for brass :p

Cheers

Here it is before it went out for chrome

I went with a Docter site mounted by Bevan Gram from Grams Engineering. He doesn't use a convetional Docter mount, but mills out the slide so the site sits much lower.

My ammo is loaded to an OAL of 1.185. I have STI mags (STI Followers) with no spacers as well as SVI (Grams springs and followers) mags. They work in both although the rounds do rattle in the STI mags.

Didn't think so. Does the barrel/slide length of the Stinger have anything to do with the 9mm Major 'problems' being experienced?

No...not that I'm aware of anyway...

Most people I know that are shooting Stingers in 9 major are not having any problems...

Cheers
