Hi folks, I need some clarification.

The stock Ruger 10/22 scope mount, is it or is it not "Weaver"?

I have recently purchased some accessories that claim they are "Weaver" but do not fit the stock scope mount.

After doing some research, I have found that slot width is as follows:

Picatinny = 0.20 inch
Weaver = 0.18 inch

Thing is the width of the slots on my so-called Weaver mount is 0.15 inch.

The cross bolt on the accessories is 0.17 inch, yet the weaver scope rings have are mounted to my 10/22 are .14 inch. WTH? :mad:

At this point I'm really confused and could use some higher knowledge on this. :confused:

Thanks in advance...

Answered (phone call to Weaver) - True Weaver slots are about 0.15" wide, with 0.138" crossbars. This other "Weaver-style" that is often listed is somekind of BS neo-picatinny mount that really has nothing to do with Weaver. The Ruger 10/22 comes with a true Weaver mount.

The factory rail that comes standard with your 10/22 is a dual purpose base that you can use with Tip Off (Dove tail) mounts or 1" Weaver Style Rings.

What is it that won't fit?

I understand the mount is a combo mount, but why are the slots narrower than standard Weaver?

They machine 1000's of these things at a time. Do you think .002" or .003" is an "out of tolerance" spec to them? Maybe you just got a bad one??
None the less...Just buy a "picatinny weaver" rail to match your "picatinny weaver" rings and all your problems are solved.
There cheap and widely available.

With respect,

We are not talking about 0.002 or 0.003 "out of tolerance" here. If it was that I'd get it... we are talking about a fundamental difference in dimension. I don't think it's a coincidence either, as the cross bar of the rings I have currently installed from Weaver themselves (not just "Weaver style") perfectly fits the 10/22 mount.

I was hoping there would be some kind of explanation, maybe this was a known thing to others that I wasn't aware of.

That being said I am seriously considering getting a proper picatinny/weaver mount. I won't be able to get it though before my time runs out to return a scope I purchased if I am not pleased with it.

Thanks for you input.

Since you look new here, thought I'd mentin Dlaskarms.com (well respected products and service on this board) has a nice rail...made in Canada.

Thanks for that Steiner,

I was looking at that last night but I think it's too long. I'd be looking for something that is about the same 4.6" length of the mount that comes with the ruger.

Cheers.
