My buddy has a Norinco SKS, and we've shot it a fair bit for three years or so. The other day I was at the store and handled a Russian SKS, and it was very familiar...except the cheekpiece seemed to be slightly lower than I was expecting...the ironsights didn't line up with my preferred cheekweld position. I would look at the irons expecting to see both front and rears at the same height, but instead have to raise my head to see the fronts aligned with the rears.
That got me thinking and looking at the Russian stock, I concluded that it had a narrower contour, it seemed like there was actually less thickness to the butt area. I wondered if the cheek area was actually slightly lower than on the Chinese versions, and if the length of pull was similar or the same or not?
Anyone own both, or who has experienced what I'm talking about? Do Russian SKS's have variations in dimensions that can be physically noticed while shooting?
